'nother... Went to a gun show today story

Post by gwilly »

There was a small gun show close to home this weekend that I checked out this morning. I've been going to it for several years......maybe 40 tables is all. Some years I find something that I'm looking for & others I don't. I went more this year just to see how crazy things have gotten.

The roads were icy from freezing rain & drizzle last night. The temperature was only 7 above when I walked out the door & there was a 20mph North wind. I went early hoping to beat any rush that might occur.

When I came around the corner & the parking lot was over flowing! :beek: ....almost turned around & went back home. But I got lucky & slipped into an empty parking stall close to the door as an earlier gun-shower departed.

I paid my $4 to get in & began wading my way through the mob. I only spotted one 91/30 refurb....couldn't get close enough to see the price though. I'm not one much for being in crowds so I didn't linger long in any one spot. :redfaced: About the only thing that caught my eye was a decent T53 marked at $190. The one that I looked twice at though was a scoped Romanian PSL. It came with a spam of ammo & had a price of $1275. I didn't buy it ....but all things considered, I didn't think the price was too bad either.

I was there about 45 minutes. My single purchase was a nice 91/30 refurbed-pre-war-shellaced complete stock & hand guard with all the hardware + three shims for 20 bucks.

I walked away with a smile. ...& let everybody else push & crowd around the clogged isles.

Sounds like what I faced today, minus the cold, a 20 min wait just to get on the lot due to traffic, then trying to park for 45min and facing a 45+min line to get in. NOPE, didn't waste my time. Got to meet up with some family and had BBQ for lunch :Drool1:

I also hit a show today. Was in a town 50 miles oneway down the road. Waste of time but hey i didn't have to pay to get in. Saw 2 total milsurps...one m95 and a albanian sks. Didn't check the price of either as i didn't need those. No ammo to speak of but was some 223 for 50 rds for 50 shmos. AKs 1250, ARs lowest piece o crap was 1600 and the ones i would consider buying well into th 2000s. No thanks. Spent about half an hour there and left. not even any jerky there.

I hate crowds but i love a gun show. The one i went to last weekend was so packed you could barely walk down the isles. But it was still a lot of fun

There are more things to see at a gunshow than milsurps and overpriced plastic fantastic. Didn't we just see a nice post 64 Winchester 1894 here yesterday that came home from a gunshow? I would take that over a $2000 Mattel special any day.

Over priced remchesters and a few winchester levers. I looked at every table and asked every ammo guy and reload guy for stuff i need. No sense in not getting something you need while you are there right? The answer i got the most was that i usualy carry that stuff but am waiting to see how they mess with the gunshows till i restock that kind of stuff.

I am hoarding reloadable cases for even stuff I don't shoot much yet.

My last gun show is where I found a nice SA leather sling, ammo can, several bullet molds, and small items like that.

I have been looking for one near that price for 2 years now but everything I see has problems or is way over priced! Dang I would have loved to see that one! I go to a local show just about every weekend this time of the year but nothing I can get for that price or even find for any price is worth it for any number of reasons. Saw one for $1399 last weekend and looked close at it and found the receiver had been fixed with new rivets in place. Scared me off and when I mentioned a trade the guy said no I need cash. Bill :o

We've got a gun show here in Arizona on the 26th of this month, curious to see if they've jacked up the prices on ammo and AR's like they seem to have done elsewhere. Arizona seems to be the "friendliest" gun state there is. Got out of California partly because of all the restrictions, hopefully the latest panic will subside...

Which one are you going to on the 26th, Kingman or Phoenix?
Prices were up at the Tucson gun show a couple of weeks ago.... :very mad:
