1942 Tika M91. (pic heavy)

Post by TopperT »

This is my newest Finn, a 1942 Tika M91. Its in very nice condition and according to the seller, had not been fired since getting it 40+ years ago. I believe him as it took me several hours to clean out and clean up rather a large amount of greese/old oil that was on everything. The bore has shined up to indicate strong rifling and I think after some shooting it will clean up to mirror brite, at least that what I am hoping for.

One thing, my research indicated only (about) 33,000 Tika M91's , this would seem to indicate at least 34,113, Aside from a couple of bumps that look to be the "normal" handling marrs/whoopsees.....hate them!...the wood is VERY nice and the metal is in really nice condition also. All in all it cost me $ 405 to get it here but I think it worth it.

Its going to be warm here the rest of the week so I will get in a range report on how this one shoots. I figured a couple of pictures with snow would be in order. Alwys trying for a new look to takin pictures of the rifles......

I bought two M91's from the same seller and both have the tiny band screws. Nice plus. I need a sling for this one, the other one is a 1941 VKT and is just a bit lower on the over-all quality scale, but a nice rifle none-the-less. Thanks for the kind comments, to say the least, I'm very pleased with it. :chuckles:

If it shoots like my '42 T then you will have some fun :)

Much appreciate the feed-back. :redfaced:

Since my discovery of Mosin Nagant rifles last year, and as I learned more and more ( and so much more to learn) I have been more and more impressed by the work of the Finns. So much so I embarked on building up a group of M39's to use to fund my quest. I have wanted to build up a little group of the different Finn Mosin-Nagants, so this concludes my Finnish M91 phase , :chuckles: on now to find a M28 and a 28/30, Still got lots of M39's for trade  . S :shifty:

Good news  , weather looks super so I should hit the range in the am. BTW......I forgot to add that it "sits" on a 1900 Tula receiver. I;m looking forward to shooting this rifle and how the longer site line works for me.

As pretty as that one looks it is maybe possible it was assembled from left over parts after WW2. That may explaine the numbers glitch over 33000. When they say they made 33000 they may have had bad barrels in the lot and used off numbers in an overage of maybe making 45000. Another possiblity can be they made some bad barrels, although the time period for bad metelurgy is not right it is still possible. Some Belgian barrels for the M91 were cut down and used on M39's too. All the cutdown barrels may not have been Belgian and some of the consecutive serial number run to 45000 were used elsewhere. Also it could be something as simple as the Finn's penchant for jumping around or skipping serial numbers in a range. Whatever you got yourself at nice rifle and I bet it shoots like a dream too! Congrats! Bill :D
