SVT40 Sniper
I see a listing on gunbroker for an SVT40 sniper. Per forum rules I won't post the listing, but I want some advice on it if I can. It's listed at $4000 with tons of photos. Is this thing legit or overpriced?
I believe in the right to arm bears.

Re: SVT40 Sniper
I am not familiar enough with the SVT snipers, but I am sure SVT sniper parts have been reproduced by someone. I would not consider dropping four large without an iron clad knowledge that the rifle was legit. $3000 premium over regular ( and already overpriced) SVT40 's seems excessive to me.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

I'd be hard pressed to bid that kind of horsepower on a weapon that I did not have a hands on examination of. There are way to many doctored up weapons out there, especially snipers. Be careful.....

Four grand and I would want an electronic vice clamp attached to a couple of body parts the seller values greatly, to be triggered by remote the instant I find out the rifle is a fake.

Re: SVT40 Sniper
Back off that one MM. These are easily faked. Most all SVT's are machined for a scope. The scope and mounts are sold separately by several sources. My SVT 40 is unusual as it is not machined for a scope.

Re: SVT40 Sniper
Pretty poor photo of the groove for the rear mount. But I don't see the "proper" marks for a "real" SVT40 sniper. It could be that the photo is so bad I can't see the marks, but if he want to sell it for $4000, then he should get some better photos. I'd want a "right to return" agreement on it with inspection.

To someone who wants it bad enough I guess, not to me, but then I don't collect snipers.
