Winchester 1895

Post by bocephus »

Tomorrow I can go look at a 1895 in 7.62.. Some weird things, it has a really high serial. Too high for the Russian Winchester production years but looking around the internet, a good portion of the ones people have, have high serials and in every other forum post nobody knows why. How else would it be 7.62?

It has the correct rear sight for a Russian rifle and has the cartridge guide. It has an import stamp with 7.62 MM. It has the wrong stock, it's an 1895 stock but it looks like a carbine stock with finger grooves and it doesn't have the upper stock that goes around the rear sight.

It's pitted and reblued over the pitting, not sure at which point in history the rebluing occurred.

I am not that familiar with these, but be carefull before you start spending big.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

:vcool: :vcool: :vcool: Have seen a couple of these here. I didn't pay any attention to the serial or import marks though. There is one at williams gunsight if it can offer any help. It only has one picture but i think it has the right stock on it including the handguard. :D

Yeah I'm a little leery of this one. I see they go for high dollars but this would probably be on the low end. I did a lot of looking on the internet, one problem is there aren't enough examples. But I'm not seeing any that are reblued and not many with that much pitting.

Last one i saw local was not pitted and looked pretty good. can't remember which one but there was a full stock one and a cut stock one. The cut stock was about 700ish but was a while ago. I think the other was 1200 or so. It has been a few months since i have seen one though. :D

It could be a carbine stock or someone hacked the old one.

I don't blame you on passing. It would probably make a nice shooter, but it looks like a mixmaster to me. The missing parts are waaaaaaay too expensive to try to put it back together.
