I'm new here and this may be a lot late, I've bowunted for the past 30 years, and have just recently started using firearms. (love the guns). I shot compounds for quite a while, and they are great, however, hunting with a longbow or a recurve is the ultimate. It takes a lot more practice but the rewards are much more satifying. The biggest advantages are, you can get a top quality hunting recurve for under $150 new. (Samic takedown) Shooting instinctive means you don't have to worry about bumping your sights and not being able to hit anything, shooting fingers means no worries about losing your release or a release failure ending your hunt.
Good Luck

Thanks! I've still been very interested in bows, but i've been going for the firearms haha. I have found that you can pretty nicely make a recurve or long bow from pvc pipe. They seem to be pretty durable and perform well too. Been watching some videos on how to make them. And they are affordable to make. Pretty cool stuff. I'm thinking about making one for something to play around with until I can get something better.

Let me make a short, open, blanket comment. There are no good guns. There are no bad guns. Any gun in the hands of a bad man is a bad thing. Any gun in the hands of a descent person is no threat to anyone--- except bad people. -- Charleton Heston

Guns are not good, they are not evil. Save those descriptions for the people holding the firearm. -- Unknown

for big game i have mostly bow and muzzleloader hunted , i have used a rifle and shotgun a little bit , i have also hunted a lot small game with bows and slingshots , i started when i was a kid , i nake all my own bows and arrows , i make the bows from , black locust , hickory and white oak , i make the arrows from river cane , bamboo or virginia pine , i use wild turkey feathers for the fletching but pretty much chicken or goose feathers will work , i make my arrow heads from flint and hardened knife steel ,i make the strings out of everything from sinew to fast flight , i stick pretty close to native american desighns , particularly cherokee , being i am part cherokee myself , bow hunting is more about a feeling and a state of mind than the actual reality of doing it , i have just always felt the most at ease with a ancient weapon in my hands , maybe thats why i like old guns as well , making your own archery tackle is the only way to get the true bowhunting experiance... ;mywink;
i am so poor i can only afford mustard and biscuits three times a week ..
