Just received/inherited a Remington Sportmaster 341
My mother just handed me down her fathers Remington Sportsmaster 341. Seems to be in great shape. She really knows nothing about its current condition as far as firing goes. And I don't know anything about these either. I do know that they were made between the years 1936-1940. About 150k produced. I know nothing else at all.
As with anything I get, I want to make sure its all clean inside. But I cannot find any information on how to break this down. And I have read that parts are very hard to get. I would hate to break something just because I was trying to clean it, and was guessing at the breakdown of the bolt, etc. I don't even know how to load this.
It was a nice Christmas gift. And I love family heirlooms.
So any and all informaion would be greatly appreciated.
I didn't think anyone would need pics. But I can get some if necessary.
Thanks

Pictures are a requirement. Didn't you get the memo? Here's a few parts depending on what model it is. http://www.gunpartscorp.com/Manufacture ... -39489.htm and http://www.gunpartscorp.com/Manufacture ... -39490.htm

Remington is still in business and could help with a manual.

Contact Remington, I am reading that others have gotten manuals from them for this rifle. Nice .22

Here are some pics.

I guess this "bell" shape on the handle is unusual, so I have been told.

Like new really.

Nice. It looks pretty clean. Doesn't look abused.

Mil surps seam to be drying up some, so I have started looking for some .22s to collect for a while'
That Remington 341 looks good. I will pick up a Marlin 60 from the pawn shop today. Something to clean up
and take to the range next weekend if it don't need any parts and it shoots.

I have been collecting .22's for 30 years or so, it's a disease.

Re: Just received/inherited a Remington Sportmaster 341
I just found a Romanian Trainer here in Tucson, missing mag, for $75. Its better than the one I got from AIMs. If it is still there in a couple of weeks, I think I will pick it up. Why....I don't know. I don't need another one. But the price seems so good.

For that price pick it up now and worry about the mag later, you can always single load it.

A fine little .22 & from what I see of the pictures it looks like it was well taken care of. But yes, get the pictures & takedown info before you begin messing around.

You better grab that Romanian! Mags are under 30 bucks a pair at gunsnammo.com. You will have to call Pat Burns or find them on Gunbroker. About that Remington, it is the tube feed version of the Remington 41, which was single shot. I have one of these. I did not strip it down. Just cleaned it and it shoots like a champ. I found a owners manual copy online by Google searching, and downloaded it in PDF format then just printed it out.

I don't know how I got the pics split up but oh well. Remember these are from the era where non-corrosive ammo was fairly new. It is interesting that the manual calls for quick cleaning if using "old fashion" ammo, or corrosive. Also more interesting is that the recommendation for cleaning when the Remington cleaner is not available is to use boiling water, then oil.

I actually have a 2nd one of these, but it is missing the entire bolt. The last bolt I found went for nearly 200 bucks!

Bunkydad - Tube fed. I have never fired it.bunkysdad wrote:You better grab that Romanian! Mags are under 30 bucks a pair at gunsnammo.com. You will have to call Pat Burns or find them on Gunbroker. Wow. If you have that manual in PDF still, could I get sent a copy?
I have not shot, or broke down the Sportmaster. My brother broke it down some time ago, and said all was fine. But I don't think he fired it. This was my grandfathers. So I can't chance anything happening to it. I must learn more before I dare take it apart. The manual would be great to have for this.
If the Romanian trainer is still in the store next week, I think I will get it. I have one, with a spare bolt already. Other than price, it is hard to justify.

If Pat Burns runs out of the magazines for the Romanian M1969 Trainer there's a few places that have them including LibertyTreeCollectors. He's the cheapest at $24 besides that deal from Pat Burns. The ones I got from LTC were Tiawan made contract mags according to CL at LTC. http://gun-deals.com/index.php?dealtype ... 9&subcat=1catcracker wrote:Bunkydad - Tube fed. Re: Just received/inherited a Remington Sportmaster 341
Why do you think you must tear it down? It sounds like it has been kept clean, unfired, and free of rust. If it works fine I would leave it. I can email you the PDF file. I am not sure how I found it but I did save it. Send me your email address. Also there is a list of downloads directly from the Remington website of all the models, but this one I have is a copy of the original manual.
