My son's first time fishing

Post by hoshow »

My son spent most of last winter telling me he wanted to go fishing. I have no clue where he got the idea because I don't fish. Anyway in June my Dad and I took him out for the first time. Wouldn't you know he caught two fish (too small to keep but he didn't care). He was hooked. We spent half the summer on the shoreline and that kid is a natural. I don't know what age is normal to be casting for yourself, but he was doing it the second time we went out (he was 4 at the time). I think he tallied 6 fish for the season, but he loved it, and I have another activity we can do together. Not a particularly interesting story probably, but an awesome time with my son. If I can figure out how to get pics from my phone onto here I will post some of our fishing outings :D .

Yeah. I try to take the kids with me to things as much as possible. Everyone keeps telling me to enjoy this time becasue they won't be young very long.

That is so true. My youngest has been out of High School for 7 years. Where does the time go? :o

Mine are 5 years, 3 years, and 6 months. They change so fast. I hope the two girls (3 years and 6 months) want to fish too. The three year old already wants to real in my line and touch the fish and she likes to shoot her brothers bb gun (she pulls the trigger while I hold and aim).

This is great. I can't wait till my boy is old enough to go fishing, camping, and of course shooting. He's only a year and a half now.

1 1/2 I remember those days and will soon see them again. Fully mobil and not enough attention span to sit down for more than two minutes. I am guessing you are kept very busy

When they suddenly get quiet you know it's time to panic, even I know that means they are up to something

That's one of the reasons I didn't think my son would like fishing (short attention span), but he is good for a couple hours as long as we bring a snack and something to drink. He accidentally threw his pole in on one cast last year. Luckily I was able to grab it with the net before it sank to the bottom. You can't replace a high quality Spiderman pole like that

thats great..Spend as much time with your kids as you can. I take my oldest who is 10 everywhere I go.. Allways have. If I"m flying, hunting or fishing, He goes. If my friends don't like it, I'll find new friends. My 6 year old girl is getting to the age I can take her too. Next up for her is one of those little pink .22 rifles.. she has a pink red ryder bb gun now.

That's awesome! I have a lot of one on one time with each kid, but it's great to find things we can all do together. I want to get my son started on a .22 rifle as soon as he can shoot the bb gun by himself. I am taking the three year old (who will be almost 4 by then) to the sortsman's day event next year with my son and I. She probably won't be able to do some of the stuff, but there is plenty she could. My son had more fun there than at Seabreeze (an amusement park). There were places to try canoeing, archery, shoot a crossbow, bb gun, and a rope bridge (not to mention black powder and clay pidgeon shooting for the adults). I figure I might as well spend lots of time with them now before they figure out I am not really cool and figure out I am an old fart
