opinons on bore quality

Post by jdolinski »

I would appreciate opinions on the quality of this bore, I hope the pictures are good enough to tell.
I could have been more clear I guess, I keep seeing terms like dark, shiny and wear so I was looking to get
a visual point of reference due to my lack of experience.

Mr too. The more you shot and clean, the better it will look. A couple of quarts of boiling water through it after a good long shooting session followed by a normal cleaning and you'll be happy. Your rifle will be happy too.

My opinion is that it has rifling and will likely shoot. I don't see any pitting or rust right off, so what is it? :vconfused:

If the crown is good (hard to tell from the pics), you have a nice one.

It is hard to tell from just looking at one. Go shoot it. That will be the true test. I have a Chinese T-53, that to look at, you would think what a POS, but it shoots good.
“Freedom is the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.” George Orwell, English novelist, essayist, and critic, 1903-1950

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Looks good from what I can see - they're hard to take a picture of aren't they. I struggled to get a good picture of mine for a decent while.

Bores look like bores. Bores sometimes shoot like they don't look so I sort of look at a bore and then shoot it to see how it does it's job. I have seen veritable mine fields that really do the job time after time and boggle my mind as to how they do such a great job and look so bad. I have had some bores look spotless and pristine and they won't shoot well at all. So the look of a bore over the years has become secondary. Bill

A bore that's been shot out but never rusted will look clean and shiny but keyhole every round, while a dark bore may still have sharp rifling and shoot well.
