Run on ammo?
Run on ammo?
OK. Has anyone seen a run on ammo or guns yet? I’m a little worried about the UN weapons ban going into effect. Will this mean that you can’t import Mosins and other historic arms into the Country. I just think the libs are going to make it harder on us soon. You know since there are lots of robberies taking place with 8 foot long Mosins.

Re: Run on ammo?
The run has been going on for four years now, it has accelerated a bit in the last few days or so I am told.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

No sign of it here, business as usual, and Cheaper than Dirt hasn't tripled their prices like last time so I think it's all Internet panic...

Re: Run on ammo?
The answer is a resounding yes. Like Jim said it started 4 years ago before the last presidential election. There was a slight lull in between elections and it started back up right around this time last year. It's been gaining momentum since. It hit into overdrive right about the time the election was called for Obama Tuesday night and hasn't let up since except when people were sleeping. They're buying everything, firearms, ammo and anything related. It will die down. Just a word to the wise. Don't join the panic. Our firearms are not going anywhere soon and prices are on the rise. Wait it out. We're only hurting ourselves if we join in. Only get what you absolutely need and wait until things calm down to stock up.
As for the UN treaty. It was rejected by the US just recently and will be in the future hopefully. It's an issue even the dems are hard pressed to take on for the moment. They know it's a hornets nest. What they'll do is keep eating away at domestic firearms rights. Little by little.

Re: Run on ammo?
I don't get the aprehension over the UN Weapons Treaty anyway. What I read of it only affected international gun sales. (contrary to what the NRA would have us believe) I haven't sold boat-loads of guns to Somilia in years, so I don't worry about it.
No anti-gun legislation is going through our House of Reps, in the next two years, at least.
Besides that, I am well stocked, and so was the Walmart shelves when I was there yesterday.

Re: Run on ammo?
Stopped the gun shop today and it was much busier than a normal Thursday. A couple customers buying cases of ammo, 5.56 and 7.62X39. He sold a few handguns while I was there and a few couples wanting info on how to get their CCW. The Friday afternoon coffee bunch should be very interesting tomorrow.

Re: Run on ammo?
I like to buy ammo almost as much as I like to shoot it, I collect ammo, I have been known to buy an entire case of something just because it had a cool headstamp ( this led to 12,000 rounds of Turkish 8mm) I hate it when I want to hit the gunshop and buy a little bit of this and that just for the collection and it's either not there, or priced more than I paid for the gun because of these buying sprees people are on.

Thats the way I read it. However, its amazing how it gets interpreted. I spoke with a friend who is absolutely convinced that it means the government will be knocking on his door to take away all of his guns. Education is key here and not hysteria. However, this treaty is a step in the direction of more control both abroad and here at home. I am seriously considering sending back my C&R license so that I dont have to answer to the BATFE anymore for my firearms. Its time to drop of their radar. Uh-oh...I hope big brother didnt hear that.
Seriously though, I dont think anything is going to happen for quite awhile with the exception of gun store price gouging on surplus ammo and guns. Things will settle down again but not until after Christmas.

. I guess maybe I was a bit in a frenzy.
I'd like to find some more 8mm,
You know, incase I ever head up to the hills to play with LC and Millman.

Re: Run on ammo?
Southern Ohio Guns has the best deal on Yugo 8mm right now and it's at the same price it's been for most of this year. It's still higher than it was at the end of last year by $45 a crate. It's on gun-deals too. http://gun-deals.com/ammo.php?caliber=8mm+Mauser Samco has Iranian 8mm a bit cheaper but I have no idea what the quality is of it.Jumperwire wrote:Dang, I feel kinda silly. On a side note. I was told a few months ago that more is coming. I have no idea what it is or at what price though.

Re: Run on ammo?
I was sure I was seeing this with 223/5.56 earlier in the summer with everywhere online and locally seeming to be out of anything decent/affordable. The real expensive hunting or match stuff always seemed to be around. That seemed to go away by July or so and I haven't seen a shortage since. Just as an FYI, The Sportsmans Guide has a deal going on now for $10 off plus a $20 gift card on orders over $100, and they have a lot of 7.62x54r to choose from, both spam cans and new factory non-corrosive stuff. I just ordered 120rds of Silver Bear and went in on some 270wsm with a friend to get over the $100 limit by $0.88, and works out for me as $40/120 and free shipping for him

Re: Run on ammo?
Yeah the people freaking out and driving up prices is a little frustrating. I was another board last night were they were sure they had to buy now because Obama is going to take our guns. There was even a post on their for sale board were the guy said he pulled the ad because Obama won the election.
On a more positive note, I got 880 rounds of 7.62 from the-armory.com for $155 shipped. One downside to this company is they're a little vague on what your getting. It's Russian made late 60's to 80's. Some of the other companies out there will tell you exactly which factory the ammo is from and narrow down the years a bit more.

Re: Run on ammo?
It'll be either Lugansk factory 60 or Novosibirsk Factory 188. That's what's coming in now. They list it as Russian because it's easier to sell it that way since both are factories in Russia and they get mixed lots. It's 148gr Full Metal Jacket Boat Tail/Steelcore LPS Light Ball, Copper Washed Steel Cased, Corrosive Primed and will be in a crate with two tins and an opener.bocephus wrote:Yeah the people freaking out and driving up prices is a little frustrating. Re: Run on ammo?
I'm familiar with the 188 and have been very happy with it. Some of the places are advertising their spam cans as late 70's early 80's 188.

You bring the ammo and we will bring the guns. We would hate for you to have to take any of those Finns off the wall and acually shoot oneJumperwire wrote:Dang, I feel kinda silly. I saw 7.62x54 @ $119 for 880 rounds today on Gun-deals and I had to jump. I guess maybe I was a bit in a frenzy.

I'm more fearful of surplus supply's drying up than I am government restrictions on it. I like cheap ammo.
Re: Run on ammo?
Reloading can be just as dangerous: dies and components for .303 because it is too expensive then a press for convenience, 7.62Nato for the same reason, 30-06 for accuracy, 7.62x54r for a specific Finn, 12/14 gauge because it hasn't been made in a few decades + brass shells at $6/each + hand loader for same, now 32-40 with a few different bullet diameters to try for the best accuracy. What's next?

$119 for a crate? Damn! I have been buying at RGUNS store front for $145 and thought I was getting a deal because I didn't have to pay shipping.....I just had to pay gas.

Re: Run on ammo?
I've heard a few local dealers are out of any type of high capacity mags and a big increase in movement 5.56, x51 Nato and x39 ammo, handguns are a hot item again. Also, a friend at the court house said the CCW permit applications are starting to come in rather heavy.
One of my spending sprees just happen to hit today, not related to the election, I ordered a bunch of 7.5 French and 7.5 Swiss from Aim. Been waiting a while for the Swiss to be in stock.
