1944 MOSIN 91/30 OCTAGON RECEIVER

Post by Roman1976 »

http://s1282.beta.photobucket.com/user/ ... sort=3&o=0Hi, this is my 2nd Mosin-Nagant 91/30 . 1944 Izhevsk with octagon receiver.
I purchase this rifle from the local shop for $149 . I have not cleaned this rifle yet, just wiped cosmolin around and cleaned the barrel from it. 3 things that I found interesting :1- Letter R on the left side of the receiver (there is no R in Russian alphabet ) 2: Soviet emblem is not on the receiver , 3; if you look closer right above the 1944 , slightly towards the left you can barrel see number 1 .i would like to hear your opinion on those markings.

Very nice! Not all hex receivers have crests or other markings. I wonder if its marked under the tang. I'm getting a hex m44 that looks like yours. It may be a Westinghouse receiver.

The R is on the barrel shank, it's going to be another one of the unknown markings as most of the small markings found on these rifles are. Pull the stock off and have a look at the underside of the rear of the receiver were the action screw goes through it. There should be a year and arsenal stamp on it if it hasn't been scrubbed. Nice find :)
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Nice refurb! Loaded with the usual myriad of unknown marks every where. Wood is nice for sure! Bill

Nice one. I like it. The crest missing adds to it. :Drool1: :Drool1:
