Winchester ammunition
Winchester ammunition
I presently am shooting Silver Bear 203 and it is pretty consistent in accuracy...was thinking on trying some Winchester 180 grain...I recall reading somewhere that Winchester farms this cartridge out to a company in Russia...not sure which one tho...It probably is cheaper but of the same quality...anyone know what brand this might be?..and is it any good?...I wish I could reload, but that is not in my retirement budget

Re: Winchester ammunition
Don't quote me on this but I seem to remember some Winchester ammo for European calibers was made by Sellier & Bellot in the Czech republic.Koada wrote:I presently am shooting Silver Bear 203 and it is pretty consistent in accuracy...was thinking on trying some Winchester 180 grain...I recall reading somewhere that Winchester farms this cartridge out to a company in Russia...not sure which one tho...It probably is cheaper but of the same quality...anyone know what brand this might be?..and is it any good?...I wish I could reload, but that is not in my retirement budget...

The Winchester is pricey. Unless you are hunting, go get some surplus.

That's the one Weldonhunter, I just could not remember...Millman, I have some surplus for plinking and range, i was looking for another hunting round and thought I would look around, but since the season is not that far off, I will just stick with the Silver Bear since I have about 100 rds. and use the surplus to get used to the gun, then the Silver Bear to get hunting accurate...Maybe next season I will experiment more with different brands...have a bet with my grandson, and always looking for a edge...i really want to win the bet, and show him that the 91/30 will do the job just fine..
Re: Winchester ammunition
I think you will do fine with the Silver Bear stuff. Somebody that used to be on here killed a black bear with that 203 gr. stuff. Good luck in the woods.
Here are some pics of some Russian hunting ammo I found at a yardsale. It is 200 gr. and they picture a moose. Should put a deer on it's ass.

Re: Winchester ammunition
Winchester is from sellier i believe. It shoots great but i did have trouble with it on reloading like i had heard. I will not be buying any more of it that is for sure. I would buy prvi and stay away from winchester or S&B if reloading.
