These days that is a good price for a Finn stamped SVT40, the Soviet refurbs are hitting $900, even a grand. They sometimes can be found cheaper, a few forum members scored them for under $500, but that is uncommon, and I don't believe any of the rifles were Finn marked.

Yes, that is a very good price for an SA marked SVT40 as long as it is in proper working order. If you can talk him down then do it...after all...he's only a son-in-law.

Shoot them with non corrosive commercial ammo, the gas system is a real pain in the ass to deal with if it's got salt in it. Only take it apart inside a room with no windows, it has small parts and springs that like to fly.

$850 is a nice deal. These have been droping a little sometimes and they were up there around $1200. I have seen them go for around $750 lately so i would work him over.

Finn SVT's are generally a mismatch of parts and arsenals, their bolts are generally in white as that seems to be, and the little gas adjustment port has an extra port or something different then the run of the mill Russian refurbs. I had a table at a gun show all weekend and I am absolutely beat so forgive me if I sound asleep. Trying to get ready for the blow of Hurricane Sandy to boot so more later I HOPE! That price is good for a SA marked SVT and they are a PIA to clean so I rarely ever shoot mine. They also require a special tool to takedown too and many of the poorly made repro's hardly work. If I didn't already have my fill of them I would hardly take a second look at them as they really just look cool and can be outshot by a Mosin at times. Good Luck! Bill

I was thinking about getting one but they are kind of pricy in US . Average online price $950 .Magazines cost around $170. In Canada they sell them for $299 . I even called may FFL to find out if it is possible to get one from Canada and ship it to US . Well it is possible but the whole process is such pain in the rear and very time consuming process ....I watched Video on YouTube and one guy got his SVT40 from Canada for $300....

It looks like a real tempting situation. I would think you have a good offer, and a VZ58 trade sounds good. You can get another VZ58 easier I think.

Be forewarned the process to get these into the US is doable but is in a current grey area of the import market and could be closed off at anytime and you would be out of the money you put in there. Canada looks very tempting with the much lower prices but is shakey for getting things at the present time. Really the less said about it the better off we are. All I can say is make sure you vote and don't think about who you are voting for but think who you are against right now. Bill :o

You would need to find an FFL who also has an importers license to start with, not every FFL can import firearms.
