1943 Tula with HEX reciver .
1943 Tula with HEX reciver .
Hi I went to the local gun shop today and they have 2 Mosin 91/30 . One is made in Izevsk in 1932 and it has octagon reciver , another one is made in Tula in 1943 an it also has octagon reciver . I know that soviets stop making octagon recivers after 1938 or 1936 , do not remember for sure , but it is not the point . My question is which one should I get ( both of them about the same condition , well the war time made is slightly rough ( I guess the way they made them then )) . I am relatively new to Mosin but I think it is unusual to see 1943 Mosin with hex reciver .

Tula all the way unless you are building a Izhevsk collection by year. But I'd get the Tula if It were me!

How common is to see war time Mosin(1941-1945) with octagon recivers ? Are they rare or not really ?

Or and another question about the price . They sell them for $149 . I bought 1939 91/30 from them 10 days ago and it was $129 . So is $149 ok price ? All numbers are the same except butt plates on both of them .

A hex on a 43 is an uncommon find and i would buy it right off over the other one. They reused the recievers alot so it could have any year under the tang but a 43 tula hex is a nice find. At 150 it is not too far off if not the going rate these days. I would not let 20 bucks deter me on this one. I am not sure if they are rare but they are alot rarer then others. I also would not worry about the matching numbers at all.

The recycled receivers aren't as common, but I wouldn't pay a premium for one. $149 isn't that out of line though these days. Cabela's normal retail is $149 on Mosins, $99 on sale.

Not very rare, but not common either. $149 sounds reasonable to me.Roman1976 wrote:How common is to see war time Mosin(1941-1945) with octagon recivers ? Are they rare or not really ?

All things equal I always go for a recycled receiver. I've found antiques that way.

I am surprised to see you guys saying not that rare. How many have you actually seen. I have only seen them on rare occasion that someone posts one here on the forum. It is common to see mixed parts because they are refurbs, but not so much on the barrels. I would jump on a late model/early receiver so fast someone would get whip-lash.

The Soviets reused receivers when they had them available, not that many seem to have made that way during the war, or maybe we don't see them because they made millions of round receiver Mosins during the war years. I have a hex receiver Izhevsk M44 but have not come across many hex receiver wartime 91/30's. I would grab that Tula, and the other rifle also

I have one and I jumped when I found it. I think it is a early 40s barrel on a 1923 Izhevsk reciever. Buy it.

If I ever find one, and I sure hope I do, it will be a must-have for me. And that 149.00 sounds good for that one if you ask me.

Re: 1943 Tula with HEX reciver .
It all depends on what else is there. A 1943 Izhevsk 91/30 with a hex receiver sitting next to a nice M91 from a arsenal I don't have for $100 more, I'm buying the M91. It just what you want to focus on, and what appeals to you.bunkysdad wrote:If I ever find one, and I sure hope I do, it will be a must-have for me. Once you go pre-war hex, screw the rest!
