Some guys hunt with their Mosins, but for that you need one shot, two at most unless they are a seriously incompetent hunter taking marginal shots. Even with the Enfield I only load one five round stripper at a time.
Well said. No need to speed up range time. Loading is part of the ritual and fun. My son and I will alternate 5 shots even though we have 2 Mosins. That's right, only two :D

bunkysdad wrote:This has actually been a entertaining thread. Simo, you know what I appreciate about you? It's the fact that you bring up your points, and although mostly opposed, you remain civil and respectful. You point out that there is no permanent modification to the gun or any original parts. Well that is important on a preservation forum. We hold preservation near to our heart. I can see how this mod might be interesting to someone, mostly the younger guys. I don't like anything about it myself, but that's me. I don't like the look of it, the fact that it only serves the purpose for rapid fire "hot doggin" and promotes overheating of the barrel. And when I am shooting from the bench I don't need that mag interfering with the bench. I have a Hakim semi auto 8mm and it is equipped with a 10 rd mag. There is a procedure for converting German MG13 machine gun mags into 30 round Hakim mags. On a straight stocked rifle I think long banana mags look terrible, so that does not appeal to me even for the Hakim. The assault weapon appearance of the AK and AR style rifles are the only firearms that look right to me with long Mags, except maybe for my Ruger 10/22 with the new BX25 25 rd Ruger mag.
I try to remain civil because ultimately its all opinion. you have yours and I have mine in this case our opinion is relatively close and in all honesty this mag isn't anything important to me, hell a few days ago I didn't even know it existed. if you think about it, you hit a couple bad guys with a couple x54r rounds their homies will most likely disperse anyways  I think it has its advantages and its faults and no one even know if the damn thing works :chuckles:

Can't do that, I'm a collector and believe in preservation. I want anthing I own to be original as can be. I would be emabarresed if I were on the range and was seen with a bubba device like one of these on one of my rifles, mall ninja zombie killing modification otherwise useless, don't need a ten round mag on a mosin, if I want to fire five more, I'll pick up another mosin off the table and fire it also.

I would never use a bolt action milsurp in a SHTF situation unless I was absolutely with my back to the wall. This is why I have detachable magazine fed gas operated semi automatic weapons. Don't need extended magazines, scopes, walla walla wingding devices on my Mosins, I got a M14, and a AK47 to back it up, and even a AR, no stripper clip magazine on any bolt rifle loads faster than I can slap a 20 round magazine on to my M14.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

I am with you on that! Sure, it is not a nice looking firearm with a sweet looking wood stock, but If I really need a rifle for SHTF, I want that 25 or 30 round per mag EBR. I do plan on adding a SKS and an AK one day. At least they have some wood furniture on them.

Exactly. What's the bloody point. I target shoot at 100 yards, if the 24# paper target starts to charge me, I am sure that 5 rounds is enough stopping power to kill it before it gives me a wicked paper cut.

well, lets go deeper then, these are milsurps meant to fire milsurp ammunition so putting commercial ammo or hand loads is just as bad as using commercial stocks or custom parts. :big shock:  no, I'm just teasing you

There are collectors who would recoil in horror at the idea of even cleaning a milsurp that comes into their possession never mind shooting them.

Honestly, I thought JYD was going to lock this one within 3 posts, good thing I'm not a betting man. :D

BTW, my M39 is due here one Wednesday, I can't wait. I'm going to hack the barrel down to 20 inches and no I am not crowning it then I am going to put it in one of the 10/22 archangel tactical stocks, zip tieing a red dot and bolting a bipod directly to the barrel who cares about harmonics :o :beek: :? :chuckles:

well said  Mosins arent meant to be tricked out. If you want that, just get an AR which is meant to have all kinds of crap hanging off the rails. i have an AR all tacticooled up, it satisfies that urge for me :D

Luckily I have never seen a sported / modified M39 or I think I'd check myself into the nut house for the safety of others. even the strongest man can only take so much. ugh, just the thought of bubba touching any Finn Mosin turns my stomach. I need some pepto!

Simo, I heard if you remove the barrel from the gun, it will be faster, cause the rifleing slows down the bullet.

Not that I endorse removing barrels... :chuckles: :chuckles:

As an admin are you able to see who has their RMNF page set to stay logged it? I was thinking it would be pretty damned funny to secretively change peoples screen names but if they have to manually log in each vist, it wouldn't work. change peoples names to Flounder, little mermaid, dibertdumbbutt, sparkles and aboynamedsue :chuckles:
