2 more carbines

Post by Groundpounder »

I finally found an M38. Even better, it was attached to an M44 in a package deal so I can now field a fireteam of carbines the next time the office goes shooting.

Nice deal, post was M44, lower production, somewhat harder to find :) Cool.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

I'm amazed by how much heavier the M38 is than the 91/59. I'm going to get them on a postal scale at work but I'm betting there's almost a 1lb difference between them.

Oil saturation? Less sanding during refurb? Wood density? I have a Hungarian m44 that is heavier and thicker stocked than my Izhevsk m44 and the Hungarian didn't have the bayonet! I have since added the bayonet and it is even heavier.
Groundpounder, this is a great find. Both of these dark stocked carbines compliment each other perfectly.

Its funny you should mention the weight. I handled two 46 dated non refurb m44s on the same table at a show today. Looked the same but one was noticably heavier and the dealer commented on that.

I agree about the huns. I think they were made from petrified wood and used as clubs

It's official the M38 is 8.4 lbs and the 91/59 is only 7.3. It's defintitely the density of the wood.

I asked the rifles why the 91/59 was so much lighter and it said, "BLONDES ARE MORE FUN!!!"

IS he ill mentally or otherwise? Why would a shop do that? Milsurps are a moneymaker if all they carry is four or five, the idea is to attract people in with the cheap Mosin 91/30 offer and then interest them in a $500 pistol, or $800 sporter. The shops around here used to cater to the remchester set, no milsurps in sight, and Mossberg shotguns midden in the back. When the economy tanked so did they, now a new shop has opened and they have a crate of Mosins on prominent display, AK's even a Garand, and are doing well.
