Picture of my 91/30

Post by Turks8806 »

Since I am sitting here at work bored out of my mind, I figured I'd make a post and try to figure out how to get a picture of my nagant on here. Its a 1930 Tula with the Hex reciever, I picked it up on a trade from a guy in my small town in exchange for a tree stand. I originally wanted to sell the tree stand to buy a nagant and when I told him my plan he said he had one but didnt know anything about it. So I gladly accepted the trade, and what a win it was for me.

So since I am dumbfounded by how to insert a picture, can someone explain how to do it?

If your on a PC I can't help u. On account of the fact that I haven't used one in years. If your on a smartphone you need to get the photobucket app and you can copy and paste the image code. Now that I think about it. If you have a Facebook or a MySpace from back in the day. You can upload the pictures to them. Then right click on the picture. Go to properties and get the URL. Once you get the URL come to this site. Start your thread. Before you paste the URL you need to insert img codes. I will post up examples if then and you can just copy and paste them.

[img] so what you want to do is put that img thing at the beginning and end of the URL. With no spaces. Hope this helps.

Welcome to the forum Turks. It's good to see you're so enthusiastic about these old war relics. They are great pieces of history. It's possible it's an updated or ex-dragoon being a 1930. Unfortunately the rifle you have has been altered by removing the orginal finish along with part of it's history and value as a collectable rifle. This may explain the lack of responses as this is a preservation forum. It may be just because it's late on a Sat. night.

Do you plan in adding a coat of linseed oil or anything like it? I hope so.

Great weather limits my time at the moment, I am out doing things as are most of us. 1930, nice year, too bad the dam fool stripped off the finish on you, the typical finish on these is a red colored shellac
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Learning of the OP's stock misfortune is my my good fortune. Sorry.
I had plans to redo my stock when I got my hands on it but apparently that's a no no. So, is there a guide somewhere on how to preserve one's stock properly?

Yea I know the old finish is a reddish color as I've seen with most. This is how I got the gun, the guy who had it before the guy I got it from sanded the stock down and he was apparently going to sporterize it because under the bolt there is a pen mark where he drew on the stock to cut just a tiny bit out of it, my guess for a bent/slanted bolt handle. I've tried finding some info on the ex dragoon stuff but I dont see any where on the reciever where it might have been drilled and then covered up. Nonetheless though it is what it is and I've saved it from any more torture. I do plan on finishing the stock, but im not cutting it up or anything, probably just add some oil to it to keep it nice. I'll post more pictures when I get home on monday as I'm at work from friday afternoon til monday morning. But I'll add some more pictures when I get home monday so you guys can see the rest of the beauty thats left.

Here's the way most check to see if it's an ex-dragoon. viewtopic.php?f=5&t=3373 The rear sight has a gap under it shaped like the dovetail. If the stock is still bare wood there's ways to restore it to look like it was. There's a receipe to make shellac similar to what the Russians used. I'll have to look around and see if I can find it. Damn shame so many guys are destroying these rifles. At least it sounds like it's in the hands of someone that appreciates it's history.

Yeah I know what you mean. I spent the day on the lawn tractor yesterday. I got half the place cut. I might finish up today. I'm trying to get as much done as possible this week before next sat. After that I'll be spending time putting deer in the freezer.

Well I am definately interested in the whole shellac thing. And! I just came across a movie, I have no Idea how it slipped passed me, but its called Enemy at the Gates. It's packed full of Mosin Nagants! I have been looking at Nagants ever since I got mine last year and I have no idea how I missed a movie that is all about the Nagants. If you havent seen it, I highly recommend it!

That is not to bad. It does look a little funny out of its normal dress though. Oil it up and maybe get some dirt and rub on it when oiled.
Mjac, Give the stock a loving coat of oil of your favorite kind, ballistol or lemon oil, (don't want to start an argument) and leave it be other wise. These should look like they were used a little. The more beat up the more badges of honor are on them and the more beautiful i think. :D

I have a link to that thread saved in my help folder just for posts like this because it's right to the point. I even saved the pictures because they're better than the ones I took.
