Martin is quite correct. I had to also learn to be very patient with these Russian SKS. I only know of 2 rifles in the BBQ, with really nice stocks, that should right now sell for $400 or more. A 1953 or 1954 Izhevsk Refurbished one. I only have one BBQ rifle left in my collection, a 1954 Izhevsk with a perfect laminated stock.AoxoMoxoA wrote:I certainly have good information - thanks to this forum, but patiencemartin08 wrote:With some patience, and armed with some good information, you will be able to land one that is both appealing and on the money. There have been a number of nice Tula rifles on GB for the last 6 weeks that went under $400. Patience is the thing I had to learn before I become a real collector of these.

Well, I believe Martin's advice of being patient paid off for me, as I recently got a lead on, and landed a very nice '52 Tula with matching #s for $325. Dead-balls accurate... Bore like new... Loads of fun to shoot... Can't complain.AoxoMoxoA wrote:I certainly have good information - thanks to this forum, but patiencemartin08 wrote:With some patience, and armed with some good information, you will be able to land one that is both appealing and on the money. Thanks for the great advice.

Let me make a short, open, blanket comment. There are no good guns. There are no bad guns. Any gun in the hands of a bad man is a bad thing. Any gun in the hands of a descent person is no threat to anyone--- except bad people. -- Charleton Heston
Guns are not good, they are not evil. Save those descriptions for the people holding the firearm. -- Unknown
1943 Izhevsk
1937 Izhevsk
1935/48/50 Tula (hex)
1939 Tula (laminate stock)
And many other firearms

You did MORE THAN well on that one. If I was in the market for a '52, I wouldn't have hesitated. Congrats.
No words of wisdom come to mind at this time....

Nice '52

Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Martin would not have gotten this 52 before I did had I seen it.

Wow, nice job! I am thinking of picking up a Cabela's SKS special and your's made me drool a little bit!
On the BBQ finish, I remember seeing a Mauser once that someone had "restored". It actually looked really "nice"...the stock had been sanded, stained a dark red and had high gloss varnish finish. The metal components were all a very consistent stain black. It turns out that the metal finish was actually a light coat of Rustoleum!

Cocked, locked and ready to rock...
