Picked up a Pawn shop M39 today
$165 out the door. 1942 VKT nice bore in pistol grip stock of wartime vintage. No numbers on bolt serial is 544xx bottom of mag is marked with simply 54. So I am looking in my log book and I find the same number rifle as being sold by me 3 years ago at a gun show. Nah can't be I must have written the number down wrong! So I check all the things I wrote in the log book maybe 10 years ago originally when I got it and everything matches! What the heck are the odds of 3 years later buying for less than you sold it the same rifle you sold 3 years ago? The old entry even has the note that the mag matches just the first two number only being there to the serial. It even has a trigger I worked on in it and if I remember right is a great shooter. It has the crisp break and long creep I remember trying to get cleaner and crisper.
Now you answer me this what are the odds of this happening?

Let me make a short, open, blanket comment. There are no good guns. There are no bad guns. Any gun in the hands of a bad man is a bad thing. Any gun in the hands of a descent person is no threat to anyone--- except bad people. -- Charleton Heston
Guns are not good, they are not evil. Save those descriptions for the people holding the firearm. -- Unknown
1943 Izhevsk
1937 Izhevsk
1935/48/50 Tula (hex)
1939 Tula (laminate stock)
And many other firearms

Good deal, we do it with car parts all the time. Sell Ford F150 rear for $600 , a year later we buy the truck for junk $300, a month later sell the rear out of it for the second time for $600, two years later we buy the truck for junk, now the rear is ready for it's third sale.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

It must have been fated to be. So, lets see some pictures!
Re: Picked up a Pawn shop M39 today
Reminds me of an Ampex studio tape recorder I've bought and sold a few times over. It was originally Perry Como's studio deck. I bought it from a NYC production house in the 70's, sold it in the 80's, bought it back in the 90's... hey, anybody want to buy a classic tape deck? I'll sell to you, if you promise to sell it back to me in 5 years - at half the price!

One of them big reel to reel jobs the size of a Buick? I have one in the shed, haven't used it since the 70's

That is awesome! A mosin that spoke to you twice. Fantastic.
Something similiar happened with me. My dad had a left-handed Remington 1100 that he sold to help me get my first car when I was 16. 20 years later he saw one at a local shop and reasonable price so he bought it. Yep, same one. It matched the serial numbers on an old insurance paper.

Re: Picked up a Pawn shop M39 today
The first time I bought it for $105 with shipping and sold it for $250, now lets see I bought it for $165 so I guess I sell it for $299 this time. I sure am country senile!
Sorry no pictures done here, I buy so many rifles I can't afford a camera and decent computer. You know the guy that owned this last time did a lousy job of cleaning it! The dang bore took almost a half hour to clean! Checked the headspace and pin protrussion and the trigger is just right. I will test fire it tomorrow if I have time. Everything looks OK and the receiver is a 1905 Izhevsk and I never noticed it last time, at least it isn't in my notes but the recoil lug hole is shimmed to the back of the stock. I did notice a nice clear space in the tang area and I guess that is why. Let's see now I made $145 the first time I sold it and I wonder what I will make the second time? Maybe another $145 dang that $290 all totaled!
all the way to the bank or the next rifle whichever comes first! Bill

DON'T ever sell it again....you're lucky to find one for that price let alone one you already owned.

Sounds like a really nice rifle, never sold one and found it again on the market. If your computer can e-mail you can post pics and a decent enough camera these days can be had for about what it takes to fill a truck with gas.
