Grease or oil?
Would you guys recommend using grease or oil on the outside of your bolt and the inside of your receiver. Right now I have been using oil but I would think some type of grease would be better.
Re: Grease or oil?
I prefer a light gun oil or Break-Free. I do have some of my own mix which is half ATF and half Kerosene (K-1).

-light oil if you intend to shoot it within the next inspection time (set by you)
-grease if you want to put it to rest for a longer time...
I just do not like the idea of grease in my receivers, because that might be overlooked too easily, when going to the range.
I have an Enfield Mk1 No 3 that gets shot once a year; that one I grease, because I know it will be thoroughly cleaned before use.
So there you are, my

Re: Grease or oil?
I've used both oil and grease on all of my weapons with no issues. I know the Swiss used grease, they had two different types, a yellow type grease called Waffenfett for the straight pulls and a black type grease called Automatenfett for semi and full automatic weapons. I have some of each, and the straight pulls seem to work so much smoother greased than oiled. I also have a pistol I have to keep the slide coated with a thin film of grease or it will not eject and feed correctly.
I said I was an addict. I didn't say I had a problem.

Re: Grease or oil?
The way I understood it is that grease is for parts that slide against each other such as slide rails and stuff like that. Oil is for parts that rotate like pins and other parts that rotate.

Nothing wrong said so far as it could be hurting something.......
However, even if rifles are machines to be lubricated like a ship engine, this does not mean you have to grease a gun alike a ship engine. Guns like direct, if oiled, contact.
Our Mosins are not supposed to work on grease, just on oil, and not too much of it. Or there would be a grease pan in the mitlitary output cleam-uo set. Does that make sense?

Oil and as little of it as possible.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

I put a little grease on M1 Garand and M14 op rod cams, and then only because the manual calls for it, otherwise I use cosmoline for storage.
