Looking to buy a mosin sniper rifle
Looking to buy a mosin sniper rifle
Sorry if this has been asked before but i'm looking at what could be a good deal on a mosin sniper rifle with the PU scope set up. But here's why i'm asking, it would be coming from century. Are the ones coming from there real or fake with real used parts or just thrown together to make a buck. May be able to get one for around $450 from my FFL neighbor with the friendly neighbor discount..

Re: Looking to buy a mosin sniper rifle
Those rifles from Century are humped together reproductions. By all accounts they are M91/30s they added reproduction scopes too. Historically incorrect and will most likely not shoot like an authentic sniper. They had them discounted to $379 to dealers so that might be what your FFL neighbor is paying for it. Not sure. This is from the Century flier.

The key word in this part of the description (These are refinished M91/30 rifles fitted with military style scope mounts and PU Sniper scopes.) is military "style" in this sentence but the sentence says it all. It's a made up fake that was never a sniper and was not choosen for accuracy by the Russian arsenal.

The R guns PU is the only one everyone seems willing to agree is an authentic Ukrainian post WW2 refurbished original right now. It's the one I would suggest getting if you want a PU.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Ok thanks, i figured someone on here would know. I see Wideners has them also but they clearly state the are made into a sniper rifle in russia with russian parts not by an importer and that original parts were used. I guess at least they are telling you front..I've seen the Rguns rifles and i'll have to save up my pennies more for one of those....

Near a G these days, but the real thing is worth paying more to own, it's got the history that the fakes will never have.

Re: Looking to buy a mosin sniper rifle
scored this off gunauction for 550 bucks I LUCKED OUT!!! If you look around type mosin PU sniper in ebang, you might too. Dog is going to sell me his M52 2maro, but you can't have it MINE MINE MINE. Hey dog still taking that 900 bucks, right?
Thing is you hafta know what you are looking at. R GUNS is a sure bet you are getting a sniper. Thing is they have a billboard import mark. I saw an Izhevsk on gunauction for 850 nice small tasteful mark. AOXXXXX the newer imports will have this mark if not from rgun becasue the bbl( that is removable) had the SN on it and ATF decided that it needed to be on the recv'r itself. I was going to buy the IZZZY and the owner and I got in a discussion about fees, I don't pay fees if not listed, he didn't see it that way. There are older model CAI sniper out there, but then again gotta know. I got 2 nice TULA from ATI real snipers, just not the pedigree as a rgun. But real non the less
Tula is going to have a CH for sniper H kinda looks like a n. 43 thru 44
Izhevsk may or may not have a scope number stamped on the left side of recv'r. IT may be lined out or milled off, look close. 42 (real hard to find) 43 are plentiful til 44 for sure ..maybe 45
Look for [/] or [X] for refurb marks on the scope.
The scope ret will move up down left right. it will not stay centered like a modern scope. The screws will have round not flat tops, although some fakes are getting that right. The ret is the thing
The bolt handle look at mine, it should look at least that good.

Re: Looking to buy a mosin sniper rifle
I got that M52 from a former Marine officer who captured it in Cambodia, he sold it to me to raise cash for a messy divorce, and I had to promise that if I sold the rifle it would be back to him. So far in 18 years he has not yet asked for it back, I check every now and then to see if he is still alive and kicking, he is. If he should ask for it back he will get it without question, he earned that rifle in combat.

Cambodia? Off the beaten track, he was. Let's see that had to be about late 69 after second tet.. something. I'd have to think about it. Different war.
Didn't know the story, but hey gotta ask. And more so gotta make ridiculously low offers for it. Really, do you think I am serious? I wouldn't expect you to sell it even with out the story behind it. I am finding mine for way less than that 2500+++ buck War Trophy or I won't own one.
I have a 58 Chevy that has sat for 15 years in my back yard. New Big Block Chevy 502 in it perfect body, it's not mine. My dumb ass cousin left it here and never came back for it. I call once a year. "Do you want your car?"It gets about 8 miles a gallon now and 1300 miles it will get pricey.
Is it a M52? Nope. Is it work 10grand? Yep, and it sits.
See, Dog, there are not to many of us types left. It ain't ours even if we have it.

Re: Looking to buy a mosin sniper rifle
1971 was what I was told, I couldn't press him much for details as he was not in a mood to talk about it, but later I was filled in on some of it by a friend of his in the Marine corp league. The man had an interesting war.
1958 Chevy, I can think of five guys who would want that car right off the top of my head, and two who might actually be able to come up with the money

Re: Looking to buy a mosin sniper rifle
My TOP DOG's every friggin number matches MINT bore SKS M21 VN bring home. I wish I could get the other pix to load. Blood on the sling , teeth marks in the stock. I'll get them on the photobucket thing and try to get the story out with out getting timed out. It's hard for me to get thru.
The scope is LONG gone, but I am a distance shooter and this thing does PRODUCE. 400yds hey the groups don't count if I hit the silhoutte center mass or close, it is good enough. They ain't sappers And it's ALL day long with the scope. Iron sites I can shoot about 200 at a 12 inch target
Thanks, Dog. I figured I may have bent your nose a bit. But never meant to.
I've been offered 12k 120 100 dollar bills for that 58 and really need(ed) that money. So I KNOW how hard it is to say no. But we do don't we?
Man would I love to hear that story. Thing is the poor guy probably lives with his stories everyday. Marines are hard ass. I don't think I ever saw many in the PTSD groups in the late 80s and early 90s. You only think it's behind you when it's right there waiting for a reason to show up.
An aside. I was waling with my recruiter thru McDonalds parking lot and a car back fired and he knocked me down, him following....looked at me and smiled and shrugged.
And I'll never bring it up again, promise. I know hurt, I feel for your friend. You (he) put it behind you, but there is always something. Even if it is one sweet as* rifle. I hope you shoot it, he'd want you too. I bet
I hold my M21 and can feel the what??? emotion in it. It's my go to gun and I love it as much as My TOP DOG.
I wrote the whole story out, the first time I have told it and the site kicked me off. It is very long and very detailed.
I will try to do it again, but my eyes are tearing up.
How does this sh*t happen over 30 years ago we worked together for a short time and I still cry for the man.
And as soon as I get done I am going to the range with his M21, he'd love to know that rifle is still shooting . It'll never be mine all the way.
You understand, don't ya Dog?
