Classic Arms 91/30 sniper rifle

Post by neorebel »

I revieved my Russian Sniper 91/30 today from Classic Arms.

It took three days to get it to Missouri.

The scope was not mounted on the rifle. I mounted it, cleaned the bore down to metal and went off to the range.

The gun shot dead center at 100 yards without adjustment and about 1 foot high. It appears the rifle had been sighted in with the scope as the windage was at 0. So I didn't have to do anything to accurize it. I also noticed it had the concentric circles on the barrel indicating passed for accuracy.

The scope is marked "1941" the rifle is a high wall, 1944 Izhevsk. The rifle s/n is TK1791, scope s/n 40262 with the same number stamped on the barrel (There is another number lined out just below it just above the wood. The scope and mount appear matched with a electric pencil mark on it that doesn't match any number on the gun.

All of the numbers match on the rifle. TK1791.

The bore was mirror shiny with great lands anb grooves.

The trigger had some uptake, but then a crisp possibly 4 pound release.

The bolt was smooth as silk for a mosin!

It appears none of the wood was separated from the stock since the front and rear bands were stuck in the varnish looking as though they had been varnished over.

She shot very consistently with the wolf ammo.

The cut outs for the scope mount are rough.

Here's some shots of her.

I shot Wolf SIlver and got a 1 inch group out of her without much trying on my part.

The paperwork with the rifle states it is:

Origional Russian M91/30 Arsenal Refinished PU sniper rifle with origional scope and mount.

I agree, it does look nice. How much grease and goop did you find under the wood and in the small spaces?

Ya It was windy and I had to go to a range I didn't like to shoot her because the Army ROTC was using the regular range. :very mad:

SO I had to drive 20 miles to another Conservation area. The range faces east/west and runs downhill....I don't know who designed it but they picked a crappy place and design.

But I could have taken more time to get them a little closer. SHE's a shooter thats for sure. All I had to do was adjust the elevation since I was shooting at 100 yards not 150 meters.

I never take a sniper rifle a part unless I absolutely need to. One of my friends in the Navy had been a sniper in Nam and switched to the Navy after his first enlistment.( I was in from 1976-1982 on active duty.) He taught me how to accurize my barrels and so on. He knew his sh-- because it works. Anyway he believed once a gun settles in never to mess with it. I believe it's true.

Now the scope had little papered grease strips around the silver part of the turrets. The lens also had paper covers. I like the optics of the scope they are crisp and clear even for a 1941 scope.

The inside of the barrel frankly scared me for a moment until I cleaned her down to bare metal. It took a lot of work to get that crap out!!! It was then I discovered a pristine barrel. :D

The metal barrel bands and barrel caps and wood in front of the receiver had been shalacked with a brown color. I assume to reduce the glare. It wasn't cosmoline that's for sure. I know what that's like :very mad:

Anyway it's a great shooter and I'm very pleased with Classic Arms. I work part time at a gun store and get to see what's out there and how long it takes. I really haven't had any problems when we order surplus guns to the store. It generally takes a week to get things from anyone. I was amazed I ordered it on Monday and got it on Friday.
