Watched for parts never arrive, forget about them and they will be there in days
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Sweet find Rob, congrats!
I truly enjoyed restoring my M44US(b). Like you, I wouldn't have touched it if it had been US property marked. But as a civilian rifle, it became a fun and educational project
They actually have a fairly similar silouhette.
I've got some leftover blue-ing and stock finishes. Your welcome to them if you can use 'em.
Good luck, have fun and again, congrats!

Re: I bought a Reising!!!!!!!!
I picked up a Reising Mod. 50 .45 submachine gun in '87 for $800 plus the transfer fee. Minty gun with two original mags, sling and the original WW2 manual. I saw the dealer some years later and he wanted to buy it back from me for $2500. A sweet shooter and very accurate. Reisings are nicely made weapons.

.The new style long wear metal lined extra hard brake pads that come as options on some vehicles and after market are the reason disc's wear out early. Many after market brake pads put on at brake shops have them.If you can find a mechanic that knows how to find the right pad for you, your disc's will last much longer. 'You may not get as many miles per set but the softer pads will stop better and not score the disc rotors as badly. Less noise too. JGC
Re: I bought a Reising!!!!!!!!
Some after pics. Still working on the replacement stock from Numerich, might put it off to fall. The Perma Blue job is OK, but not as good as I would like either. Shoots great however!

The camera shows alot more brown in the bluing then I can actually see with the naked eye. Overall I think this will get a redo later. For now I am going to enjoy shooting it.
Eyeballing an old Winchester model 67 .22 that would be an excellent candidate to hone my skills, as I have not tackled some of this kind of work in some time. We'll see what happens!

Thanks Gents, here is an update on what I have learned so far, the first version was the Model 65, of which somewhere around 6000 to 10,000 were purchased and marked Property of USMC during WWII. Other model 65's were sold to the public (rare during WWII) and to about 1947 as just the standard Model 65, but in advertising was called the "General". In 1948 to about 1952, but probably a few years after, It was redsigned just a little and released as the Model 150, with barrel sights, and the Model 151, with an aperture sight, and stamped and named "Leatherneck" due to its USMC roots.. Some were factory D&T'd for a scope mount, but I have not yet figured out how to tell if it is a factory job, or done after. Somewhere around this same time, sources vary, it was also introduced as the Model 165 "Leatherneck" as sort of a deluxe version with checkered stock and aperture sight. In 1958 the Corps procured some more with a redesigned safety and magazine release to approximate those on the M14 rifle and designated it the M58-C. From what I have seen there is some overlap of barrels and receivers and receiver plugs, along with triggerguard variations that over lap all the models in reguards to styles and markings. My guess is that H&R was not going to waste any parts just because of minor revisions.
So please disreguard my earlier information in the first post on the Model history. What I have learned now is better authenticated. In fact I am going to go edit the old stuff out.

Thanks for the update. That's quite a lot of good info. I had an M14 for awhile in the service. But no ,22's were available for practice.Yours is the first I've seen. Very cool.

Re: I bought a Reising!!!!!!!!
The one I have runs fine but they are somewhat complicated to take apart and unless keep scrupulously clean, will not feed. The bolts, I have been told, were hand fitted to the gun with very close tolerances and are not interchangeable with other guns. The problem with them was that in dirty, combat situations, they were not reliable. But for recreational shooting and correctly maintained, they are fun to have.Sgt. Thanks for all the compliments Gents, I was not even looking for this, just one of those surprises!
The Campaign cover was given to me by Cpl. Edward Robert Crawford, USMC 1940 to 1946, Served with the 2nd Marine Parachute Regt., the 1st Marine Division, and the 5th Marine Division. Saw action on Choiseul, Guadalcanal, Bougainville, and Iwo Jima. Twice awarded the Bronze Star, twice awarded the Purple Heart. My friend, and a mentor. God rest his soul. He went to the Marine Barracks, Heaven last year.

P.S. He condemned the Reising submachine gun as the worst weapon put in an infantryman's hands!!!!

They were once popular in the prison system along with M1 Carbines and Tommy guns.

As was Winchesters Model 1907 .351 Self-Loading rifle. I had one of those that my Brother has now, along with the special 10rd prison mag. Very fun to shoot. Pain to reload for.Junk Yard Dog wrote:They were once popular in the prison system along with M1 Carbines and Tommy guns.

Re: I bought a Reising!!!!!!!!
As I am new on this forum I was wandering around here and came across this thread on the Reising. Lo and behold I have one. Not the 150 but an H&R model 700 in .22WMR purchased in the late 70's. It apperas to be an update with the same action.

looking at the rear of the receiver

I find it very accurate though the trigger is a bit heavy due to the cylindrical hammer.
How do you charge your 150? I dont see a cocking handle?

Re: I bought a Reising!!!!!!!!
Nice! The .22 magnum version is on my radar once I have coin to spend again. (Just sent the oldest to college!!
)
Your rifle appears to be in great condition, and I think these were only made a few years in the late 60's early '70's. An idea ahead of its time.
The charging handle on the model 65, 150, 151 and 165 versions is a push rod under the barrel in a slot in the fore arm, If you look at my pics you can see the slot on the fore arm bottom.

Re: I bought a Reising!!!!!!!!
I bought mine back in 78 when living in Lousiana. Saw the advertizement in American Rifleman and just had to have it. My wife being young and sweet back then was agreeable and though we didnt have much money we saved enough. Its very accurate BUT the trigger pull is a bit heavy and there is really no way to improve it as the sear hold back the sliding hammer. One of my sons keeps trying to get it away from me but the wife will have nothing to do with it. He be out of luck. He did fanagle a nice SKS from me though.
I think the model 700 was only produced for 2-3 years.
