Re: Tula Sniper
As in can't be made to fire? Oh, I have heard of this in countries were civilian ownership of live weapons is restricted. Are you in the UK, or elsewhere in Europe?Chogi66 wrote:Hi, yeah a deactivated. It arrived this morning & I'm dead chuffed with it!
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Yes, I see you are in the UK, Tula Neil is this common in the UK , the deactivation of live weapons for display? How is it done, or are parts used to make up non firing weapons?Junk Yard Dog wrote:As in can't be made to fire? Hi JYD.
Yes it's very common in the UK, and for us shooters it's a subject that has mixed emotions across the land, some of the weapons that get deactivated can make you weep, perfectly shootable rifles getting cut up. That then has a knock on effect on people wanting useable ones, the price goes up. Take a working rifle say a 1920 .303 SMLE B.S.A matching numbers in perfect condition, that a dealer wants to have deactivated, take the rifle apart keeping the bits together, the barrel is then cut in length 1/4 inch wide from the receiver to the foresight below the end of the wood line, (so cut not seen when put back together) then a steel bar is welded into the barrel, the receiver is drilled and steel pinned under the wood line, (so round cannot be chambered) the bolt head & firing pin are cut at an angle. Then it's put back together taken to either London or Birmingham proof house, and if it conforms to the deactivation it's stamped and available to be sold £300-450 to the public no licence required. You are given a Deactivation Certificate to show it cannot be made to live fire. This rifle can be cocked and dry fired, dummy rounds can be put in the mag, and the rifle field stripped.. The latest way to deac any firearm is all of the above then weld the action and bolt closed as well so nothing works... A large dealer here has had 200 No4's & 300 SMLE's & 125 Lugers WW1&2 dated & P38 &1911's do not know numbers of these, all Deactivated for a recent big show... live fire hand guns are banned here anyway..
Lugers sale price £895 (artillery Luger £975 at a recent sale) make one want to weep
Sorry it's a long post not easy to explain.
Just found a dealer with M44's M38's 91/30's & snipers PU & PE scoped deacs for sale and live he is prepared to deac for you at cost (approx £50)

Re: Tula Sniper
Some city's here require any firearm replica to have a blaze orange cap attached to the muzzle, but these are airsoft and other plastic toys, not deactivated real firearms. We do have dewats, what we call deactivated firearms, these are mostly machine gun parts built onto dummy receivers as owning live machine guns is difficult, and expensive. 500 Enfields
and the bastards ruined them all! After the huge haul brought into the states from the UK in the early 1990's I am surprised there were that many left to be had. That whole situation really sucks, and it's the reason we fight so hard here to maintain our firearms rights. There is widespread disobedience to most gun control in this country anyway, but politicians keep pushing for more. They would love the idea of taking our guns and making them inoperable, of course you could still bash someones head in with it, or run them through with the bayonet. Lugers and P38! what a waste.

What an ugly ass rifle.
“Freedom is the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.” George Orwell, English novelist, essayist, and critic, 1903-1950
Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
