Addition info on soon to be purchase.

Post by laquak »

Hello guys how are you. I am here because my next rifle will be a PU sniper scope MN 91/30 and reason why I am here is because I am thinking of picking one up from the gun show here in Philly that will (should and better be here :devil2: ) on the 29th of this month.

From what I remember when I was at the last gun show where I got my 2nd 91/30 I saw maybe less than 5 PU sniper scope mosins and they all looked and decent to good shape but I am worried about the scope. The scope looked absolutely brand new, like it was manufactured else where and no signs of signs of it actualy belonging to the rifle it was mounted of. I am guessing its a fake one. I think JYD has a post here explaining the difference so I will search for that thread but should I get the rifle at the gun show of order it online?

You are probably looking at "newly made" sniper rifles fabricated for or by CAI. If that is not what you want, be very careful or you could be badly burned.

I explained what about PU's??? I am no expert on the PU sniper, others here can give far more competent advice than I on the subject. My best advice were it comes to PU's is not to buy a fake one, and to do your homework before buying anything.

I forget but are you in Canada? I only ask because it makes a difference in a recomendation I have. If you're looking to buy a genuine, provenance proven M91/30 PU Sniper, the RGuns are undisputed. There's a lot of "Snipers" on the market now and a lot are in some way or another not historically correct or are straight up fakes made for commercial sale. I would suggest reading through the link below about the RGuns snipers and you'll find a lot of information that applies to not only those rifles but PU Snipers in general. The first link is to the RGuns site with the PU's they have for sale and the second link is to the sticky in this forum about them.

I read and re-read the information on this site about snipers but I wanted a human touch explanation. I am in philly. I will check out the link now. I mean the gun show had some passable real stuff its just the scopes looked extremely new so I want to be very careful on this purchase.

The bottom line is knowledge. Unless you have pictures of a specific rifle there's no one size fits all answer with snipers because so many places and private people are making them from either correct parts or reproduction parts. Each rifle has to be scrutinzed on it's own. I've only ever held one and that's the one I own. Just be careful and read as much as you can about them. Some people don't care where they came from as long as they shoot like a sniper. For most of the collectors here, where they came from is the most important part about them.

Yeah I got that. The reason I asked in the first reply was because I was going to recomend the RGuns rifle, but if he was in Canada or one of the many other countries we have member's from now it wouldn't do him any good. I can't keep track of all these guys. We've got members from all over the place now. This is truely and international forum now, lol. I love it.

No not yet. I'm waiting until Fred_G can come up and it's just the two of us. This last shoot there was to much other stuff going on to concentrate on that. It's coming. I'd like to use it hunting this year if possible. I have to get to know the rifle first.

Kinda of a....horrible gun show today. Only 1 crate of 91/30s' which were regular cups of coffee as far as markings and rarity and about 4 fake pu snipers. Went in on about a 500 dollar budget give or take but glad I didnt spend it on fakes (thank you here friends and research). Figured I'd buy an AK47 but I am not ready for them yet so I didnt study on the stripping them all in detail and they were polish and romainia AKs and I'd like a Russian one. A few SKSs, decent supply of well used Chinese M53's and and an extremeeeeeeeeeeely well used, and just to make sure it sticks, and EXTREMELY well used 1917 Remington 91/30. No rod and the stock was so messed up its not even fair. It was marvelous. Saw a few .22 cal SMGs, forget their name but it was some werid manufacturer but decent price at $359 and this fun looking weird Uzi, also the name left my brain for $680.

Ended up buying 2 33 round mags for $40 each (pricey but I didnt want to buy a korean made for $17 because I read iffy reviews) for my glock 19 gen 4 and a Viridian X51 laser/flashlight combo for $300 for my glock. The guy who sold me my 2nd 91/30 hex ex dragoon was there but told me he sold all his PU scopes quick. I am sure they were fake snipers but this guy does have a decent collection and handles business around Oxford PA. Probably best chance to get a decent one is to directly contact him.

Overall, meh with this gun show as I sure as hell didnt want to assesorize my modern firearm, let alone even think of getting a weird SMG but hey its alright because I would of upset with my self if I dropped money on a fake sniper. Next show is in November :D

Head for the local gun shop, pay the transfer fee and have them order you a R Guns PU, but it's gonna take a bit more than $500, figure a grand before you are done with transfer fee and any taxes.
