General Notes - The bolt is entirely mid-1930s Tula, with the exception of the cocking piece, which is Sestroryetsk. The magazine was modified by the Finns to the "jam-free" type. Although the rifle has non-matching numbers, it is evident from the patina and wear that these parts have been on the rifle for a very long time. The rifle also came with a pair of wartime pigskin dog collars, but unfortunately, no sling.
Historic Status - With the beginning of the Winter War on November 30, 1939, many 1939 dated M28/30 rifles were shipped directly to the front, instead of being assigned to a Civil Guard district. This is evident on these rifles by the Civil Guard "S" on the side of the barrel shank, but no Civil Guard district number. The "S" was applied when the rifle was manufactured, but the individual districts were responsible for stamping their district numbers. This rifle was one of the rifles that went directly to the front lines, instead of a particular Civil Guard district.
This rifle also appears to have not been refurbished, and it has not received the D166 upgrade. It is not "D" marked.
