PU question

Post by jeremyb »

Here is a dumb question, but I don't know the answer.. How powerful is a PU scope? can you see the bullet holes at 100 yards..? Just trying to get a idea of the power in my mind.. I'll be getting me one soon.. I hope.

thanks

With a high visibility target you might see a bullet hole, but otherwise a .30 hole in a black and white piece of paper is pretty hard to see with anything short of a spotting scope.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.
Don't hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting; but never hit soft.

Agreed. When I shot my regular 91/30 at 100 yards at printer paper it was very hard to make out the shots. We tried to use a 3-9 scope on my 22 to spot with. Even on 9x it was very difficult to make out the shots. A high visibility target would make a big difference though. I dont know much about pu snipers but I think they were 4x scopes. I'm sure someone more experienced with them will be able to confirm or correct this though.

PU Scopes are 3.5 power but while adequate for what they were designed to do we are not talking "spotting scope" or what most of us consider "target" quality. These scopes were designed to be used for one shot "kills" and not shooting groups in competition.
Damn, I'll bet that's going to leave a mark! Probably hurt too!

When considering high quality lenses the communists do not even enter consideration, especially 70 years ago.

I was not impressed by the optics on the Hungarian PU, they work, but once you have used western glass the cheap shit the commies came up with is a poor substitute.

Thanks for the info guys. I'm trying to decide if I should get a sniper rifle or not.. I love my Mosins I have now, and Really enjoy shooting at 200 yards. Not sure if I will like using the scope or not. I wish I could try one before I drop 600-800 on one. I'm looking at the R gun ones and the ones from classic. I'm leaning towards the Rgun ones, but they are couple hundo more. What ever I get I will make it a shooter.

any thoughs

Get a M39 and keep the iron sights, or get a no drill scope mount for your 91/30 and mount a decent scope on it. If you get the PU R Guns is they one I would look at. PU's do not impress me as shooters, only as historical relics. If straight shooting is the object then a nice commercial sporter can be had for half the PU's cost, and pretty much any of them will outshoot a refurbished PU.

I agree.. Thats why I love the Mosins because of the Historical history behind it. My friends all have high $$$ rifles with $$ scopes and I have no interest in shooting them. I've been thinking about a M39.. Are they really that much better shooting then the 91/30? Tho I think I'll still end up with a Mosin Sniper just to have one.

Most of them.....Yes!

There are a few M91/30's that are "special".

I only have 1 M-39 (although I'm always looking) and quite a few 91/30's. The M-39 consistently outshoots my 91/30's

The M39 is the highest form of Mosin infantry rifle.
