Surplus Ammo
Well, I'm new to the Mosin Nagant ownership. Just purchased one a couple of days ago. Been researching the ammo and was wondering about how to read the writing on the tins. Does it tell you the weight of the bullet, year manufactured, etc. I would appreciate any info.

Yes, I am sure it tells all of them things. however I never learned to speak Russian, Polish, Albanian, Bulgarian, Chinese, Hungarian, or any other language they are written in
The stampings on the head of the case can tell some information, country codes, date and sometimes arsenal, the color, if any, on the bullet tip also tells a story, yellow is heavy ball, silver is match, black is for armor, green is for tracer, these are East Block colors, our tracer is red tip, . Post a good pic of the case lid, or the cartridge headstamps and someone can read it for you.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Re: Surplus Ammo
Open up the tin and take some photos of the headstamp (bottom) of the ammo and a side shot and people here will tell you what you have.
