Here are our flintlock rifles. They are contemporary made by my favorite, and superb gunsmith, Brad Emig of Cabin Creek Muzzleloading. Mrs. GS is .40 caliber and mine is .58. Hers is obviously made for a petite woman (which she is) and is just a scaled down version of mine. The .40 has a length of pull of 11 1/2' and a barrel length of 31". The .58 has a length of pull of 14' and a barrel length of 44'. And yes, they are historically correct.
Let me make a short, open, blanket comment. There are no good guns. There are no bad guns. Any gun in the hands of a bad man is a bad thing. Any gun in the hands of a descent person is no threat to anyone--- except bad people. -- Charleton Heston
Guns are not good, they are not evil. Save those descriptions for the people holding the firearm. -- Unknown

Absolutely beautiful GS, they are curly maple? Custom long rifles are definitely at the top of my bucket list hopefuls. Also on that list is the Garand, 1903, 03a3, p1914, m1917...... But I digress! one day ay a time. My latest acquisition is much smaller, but it is black powder. Now you need to see Junk Yard Dog's Hatfield percussion long rifle. It would be right at home with your flinters. By the way, welcome to the forum.

Excellent rifles Great looking maple, I love flinters, it's nice to see two such fine ones on the board
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.
Don't hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting; but never hit soft.

Those are just beautiful. Love them. Welcome from your neighbor to the south (kennewick)

Do you guys belong to any BP clubs to shoot with a group or is this a passion of yours alone. These are too nice and costly to just buy as casual shooters I would think. And the wait time alone for custom matching his/hers rifles must have been long, unless you lucked into a pair that was ready to go. I love to hear the story behind the rifles.
First off, thanks for all the kind words and drooling... Yes, I hunt with mine, elk specifically here in Washington. Mrs. GS and I also do primitive mountain man type rendezvous re-enactments as well. The big one is the Pacific Primitive Rendezvous which is held annually in the Pacific Northwest somewhere (location varies year to year) for 9 days. Awesome fun and some of the greatest craftsmen and women show up. It is true the rifles were definitely an investment.
Washington State, I lived out there for about 5 years 2005-2010 you probably know Mike Nesbitt. Elk season getting ready to start out their soon, good luck this season.
Very nice. Just because you were born 200 years too late doesn't mean you missed out. Primitive clothing, gear, and hunting techniques must make for some fantastic tasting game. Yes, it sounds like life is good!
