Happy surprise at LGS

Post by Kyle »

Stopped at the LGS today and when I pulled in the parking lot, I smelled cosmoline, I looked over and I saw a couple big green boxes in their delivery bay. Here they ordered 3 cases of Mosin Nagants! They let me look through a few of them and they were mostly war time stocks, a couple hex receivers (didn't get to see the years), all the ones I saw were dated early 40's and almost all of them had the serial number electro penciled on the bolt.

They are have a 1 year anniversary bash this weekend and that is when they are going to start selling them. The price is $124.99, seems a little high to me but I will probably have to go and get one or two. The guy I usually deal with said I could have my pick if I came in Friday.

I asked where they get them from and they said they get them from a police supply in Rochester, IL.

If you do get to pick through the crates- learn this, "cheat sheet" of the most collectible refurbs...

-Tikka (Capital T in an inverted triangle. It will be a '43 or '44)
-boxed SA stamp (generally on left of barrel chamber area)

Now, with you saying most have EP'ed bolts, make sure to look for rifles with the following years - '45, '46, and '47. I've found most of them with pictures posted tend to have EP'ed bolts.

There are plenty of other collectible types of refurbs, but these are the most uncommon and sought after examples.

Good luck and don't pass up this chance!!

I don't think I will get lucky enough to find any Tikka's. There were tags on the boxes saying where thy were from, two Izhevsk's and one Tula.

My kid is in Stevens Point.... Might have to swing in there as I drive right through. Maybe we could do lunch? :vcool:

I don't know if I could do lunch. I am planning going there now on Saturday afternoon with my son. My wife had some plans Friday that I forgot about, so I have to watch the kids.

So if you are going to be there Saturday maybe we could meet up at the gun shop. It would be cool to meet someone from the forum. :)

It will be a bit before I'm that way... But when I do I can give you a heads up. If you don't mind... Find out if they want to sell the crates. If they do & the price is decent can you get me one? I'll send funds & even buy you lunch for your troubles. I want me a crate, & maybe a few of those Mosin's too!

Keep us posted. :vcool: :vcool: :vcool:
