New to Forum

Post by skeet1 »

This weekend I attended a gun show in Enid, Oklahoma and intended to buy a 91/30 if I could find a good one and I think I did. It is an 1939 Izhevsk with a barrel that the lands are shiny but the grooves only have a little shine to them. This is not the first Mosin I have owned, the first being and model 91 that I got when I was 15 in 1965 that I paid $7.00 for. I no longer own the 91 but the 19/30 appears to be a lot more rifle in much better condition.

I hope to learn a lot more about the Mosins here.

Welcome to the forum Ken, Izhevsk 91/30 is a good way to start off building the collection :vcool: The 1891 rifle you had in 1965 was a couple of inches longer, had more primitive sights, longer handguard, and it's own band set, but the action is otherwise the same as the later Soviet produced rifles. Have fun with it .

skeet1, Welcome to the forums.

Sit down and clean that rifle and take some photos of it. It is a good thing to have for security and we love to see photos of Mosins.!

martin08,
I guess you are right, one Mosin is not enough. Saturday I went to the big gun show in Tulsa and bought another Mosin, a Finn Model 39, 1944. I just got done shooting it and found that it can shoot a lot better than I can. What a rifle!

Collecting Mosins is fun. Once you spend a little extra for a Finn rifle you will be glad you did. They knew how to take a 7.62x54R rifle and squeeze the best out of it. The most rewarding find is when you luck into a Finnish Mosin for the price of a Russian model.
