Re: Bolt Lube????????
With all my firearms, I use a light grease on the contact areas but very sparingly.
Down the bore I use a light gun oil & store it muzzle down to let any excess drain down over night.
That usually is all I ever need to do.

My wife may be upset with me in a few months.
As the title says. I have a co-worker that just last week bought what the video showed to be a M91/30 & just before Turkey day he bought a brand new car. Now this young man isn't quite 21 yet & is a helper at the shop which by the way things have been looking from his area, I may be tempted ...

Re: 762x25 vs 763x25
7.63X25 Mauser is slightly less powerful than 7.62X25 Tokarev, yes you can use either in a firearm chambered for the 7.62X25 Tok. But do not use the Tok. Round in pistols chambered for the Mauser round especially the broomhandle models, I've heard that the higher pressure round could cause eventual ...

Re: I have a project M44
Not sure what I would do with this .....I wouldn't have picked it up in the first place, but that is just me. But what ever is done will not adversely effect the collectable value of the rifle any longer. Who ever drilled it saw to that. So, for me I would have only bought it for parts (if I needed...

Already been modified by previous owner, my thoughts were to just improve it to what it should be if done remotely correctly or hide what was done like was mentioned before.steelbuttplate wrote:President elect Trump said anyone caught modifying a Mosin will be sent to a red varnish factory in Siberia.

Re: I have a project M44
Yeah the weight would be massive compared to what Col. Cooper had in mind & the Bayonet in today's world is for the most part a novelty but not needed. I could work the M91/30 stock I just got into the M44 configuration of hide the holes & I do have a Russian blot body. Have to think hard on...

I have a project M44
Didn't mention this M44 because of the policy in place here but thought to share what l have. This is my second M44 & only other Mosin-Nagant rifle but this one has been modified a little. The stock is original but trimmed on the left side to accommodate a scope mount & of corse the receiver...

Re: How I reload
I have both the Lee pocket loaders "Classic Loader" & my single stage press & dies for each round I load. I use the classic decapping pin to decap my cases & then run them through the cleaning process, then I'll resize & load accordingly. I do it this way to keep my dies &a...

1943 03A4 with original scope but I have a modern scope on it for shooting.

I agree with Lotema, surplus ammo isn't Orth the trouble of graying to reload.
PPU brass can be had for about $50.00 for 100 rounds if you look.

Re: What bullets for hunting with the 7.62x54
I've yet to hunt with my M44 but like the .312 Hornady Interloc 174gr. JSP-RN.
Loaded to around 2300-2500 fps. Should give excellent results on medium game out to 200-250 yards & from everything I've read they do perform very well.

Re: What powder are you using to reload?
I still use the same Lee single stage that I got back in 87' & for the most part I don't load enough high volume & am just too cheap to get anything else, especially since it still works.
Power for the 7.62X54R I've settled on H414 & just keep the 4064 for the 30-06.

Re: 7.62X54R reloading info.
I've found that my M44 favors 174-180 grain factory loadings like S&B & Barnaul.
My loading duplicates those factory loadings & I get an average of 2-2.5" group at least 100 yards with it through my rifle.

Re: To shoot or not to shoot that is the question
I would definitely shoot it, keeping clean modern factory ammo or reloads of similar velocities & pressures of factory ammunition will make clean up easier & no issues in wear.

Re: Surplus 7.62x54r ID?
Just to let you know, this is usually corrosive ammo.
Not bad just have to be aware of the need to clean right after shooting.
I have some from Russia's factory 188 & I typically keep a bottle of windex in my range bag to clean the bore before I leave the range.
