Re: Camp Perry 7.62X54r Find. Any Info ???

If you plan on doing any amount of shooting other than a few trips to the range you might want to go back and get at least another crate. I don't see much more of this coming back into the country in any kind of quantities to cause enough competition for price drops to anywhere like what this ammo ...

Re: Opened my 1st crate of 7.62X54r

Chas100 The paper on the ammo can is a production tag. It has an operator number and the quality controller number and at the bottom it has an order number and the year. The rest you can find in the link below http://7.62x54r.net/MosinID/MosinAmmoID01.htm#Packaging http://7.62x54r.net/MosinID/Mosin...

Re: Camp Perry 7.62X54r Find. Any Info ???

I think that was a great buy! Does anyone hear like or dislike PPU ammo? Why or why not? I just bought two boxes to try in my Garand. Thanks, Wade I've used it in my Carbines and never had any issues with it. It's certainly not the cleanest or most accurate but it's good enough to use plinking with...

CMP Mail order SG's available

The CMP has opened up mail order (8/23) for service grade Garands. Even though I said ENOUGH on my last order I sent an order in USPS tracking 8/24 and it was received 8/26. It was billed and case added 9/2 so they are moving quickly on the orders. The south store has also had them available in stor...

Re: CMP Auction AFPG National Match

I've supported The CMP for a few years with many purchases of Garands, Carbines, parts and accessories. A few years ago their auctions, although still high, were somewhat reasonable have (IMO) gotten pretty crazy lately :big shock: . I do not fault the bidders and purchasers in fact it's their money...

Re: Extra parts to have on hand

Well it looks like I need to start shopping around. When I did a complete disassemble when I first got it the parts all looked like fresh out of the box new. I didn't notice any part that scruff or any marks of any kind but you never know especially firing pins and springs that are taking pretty goo...

Re: M1 carbine range report

Thanks, guys. I started out to do 5 shot groups, but the carbines are just so much fun that I went with 10 rounds. The Inland has a 5-43 or 5-48 Inland barrel on it. It is hard to tell which. The Underwood has an undated Winchester barrel. The Underwood also has a Universal Windings receiver. http:...

Extra parts to have on hand

I was reading a thread about parts on Sarco's website. That got me thinking as to what parts and accessories are a good idea to have on hand. My other milsurps I keep springs, bolt refresh kits and a few other parts with some of them just parts that are correct for the firearm in case I'd like to go...

Re: M1 carbine range report

Nice grouping on the Inland
Is the Inland still wearing it's original barrel ?
Not bad on the Underwood either.

Very nice Carbines.

Re: Opened my 1st crate of 7.62X54r

Sometimes the same type grease that these rifles were covered in during storage will get into the tightest spaces including the bolt and firing pin. Have you disassembled the bolt and cleaned out the firing pin and spring area? Also behind the extractor I have found gummy greasy buildups but removi...

Re: Opened my 1st crate of 7.62X54r

[quote="zeebill" If you are getting delayed fire like that your ammo is beyond a useable and reliable state and any accuracy you are getting at all is just a lot of luck. Go buy some decent ammo and see what it does. Use the stuff you have for components if reloading or just fun plinking t...

Re: Opened my 1st crate of 7.62X54r

Chas100, I hope you achieve the accuracy you are looking for, but if not don't let that discourage you. The fact that these are fully functioning old relic firearms is really cool even if you have to settle for less accuracy. What I have found though is that accuracy becomes better with more experi...

Re: Opened my 1st crate of 7.62X54r

I'm curious as to what is written on the piece of paper that was packed inside of the tin I opened. Obviously it is 1973 but anyone know what it says ? BTW When I cleaned the barrel it was NASTY!! I cleaned it when I first got it before I went to the range and I also cleaned it after my first trip a...

Better Range trip with the Brothers and Cousins !!

My 2nd trip was a little more encouraging than the first. The surplus ammo was much better then the Red Army. Also took the Brothers and Cousins. An excellent day at the range !! Re: Opened my 1st crate of 7.62X54r

I did get a can opener and it wasn't that difficult to open the tin just time consuming but well worth it. The crate was what took the most time but once I figured out that you just needed to remove the screws it wasn't bad.

Opened my 1st crate of 7.62X54r

Last week was my 1st range trip with my 1st Mosin. As posted I wasn't real impressed with the accuracy but this is a 90 year old firearm. The ammo I used was factory so I decided to crack open my 1st crate of 7.62X54r. I'm going to try and get back to the range today or tomorrow but my Daughter may ...

Re: 1st trip to the range with my 1st Mosin

I would think that the bayonet attached would have a negative effect the accuracy. I will try it though the next time out. I use a Caldwell rest as pictured in one of the pics. It is only a rest with no clamping ability but it's the one I've used for the last 3 years.

Thanks for the info

Re: 1st trip to the range with my 1st Mosin

That's called "sticky bolt" common problem, just do a forum search and you will probably turn up 300 posts about it. Easy fix. I'll try the surplus ammo next time. The Red Army does have what looks like ink covering the entire primer on the outside of the casing. I never noticed it in any...
