Re: M38 1942 Refurb Pics
Thanks JYD...Regarding the number on the barrel...There is another professionally stamped number on the left side of the receiver that is totally different than the one on barrel, bolt and trigger/magazine assembly...I will give it a good look tomorrow and post a pic...don't know if that was an impo...

M38 1942 Refurb Pics
Ive attached some pics of my M38 Izhevsk refurb. Id appreciate any comments regarding the markings, etc. The metal is a little rough, but I suppose 1942 versions were all pretty rough considering the unpleasantness going on with the Nazi's. I learned a little about the marking, most of which I found...

Re: New Members, Make your first post here!
Thanks for accepting me on your forum. Not exactly my first post, but figured Id give a little more background on myself. So here goes. I collect guns! No specialty but if I see it and it talks to me, I get it..All are shooters. Arsenal and quality refurbs are fine with me. 2 Moisins, a M91 and M38....

Re: M38 Bore recess
Thanks bunkysdad... When I bought the M-38 about 6 years ago I also got a sealed zinc can of WWII surplus ammo for $39+shp...the old stuff was highly inaccurate...couldn't hit the vodka warehouse door...Recently a friend gave me couple boxes of more modern ammo...Huge difference in accuracy. Still n...

Re: M38 Bore recess
Thanks Bill...I always clean from the chamber when possible...I first discovered the muzzle was oversized when searching for a correct size brush I stuck one in the muzzle to check fit...I assumed some Russian conscript ramming a steel rod up and down had worn out the crown..HA! Never occurred they ...

M38 Bore recess
Howdy Y'all .. Scrubbing the bore of my Izhevsk M38 refurb, I discovered the bores muzzle end is recessed for about an inch or so from the crown to where the rifling begins..There is an obvious shoulder there, leaving the last inch or so smoothbore.... Any know why? Grenade launching only thing that...

Re: New Members, Make your first post here!
Howdy y'all.. Relatively new to Mosin collecting. The only two I have 38 and 91 have been "fun guns" that I acquired maybe 10 years ago....cheap to shoot and a ton of fun...Both are arsenal refurbed and I don't see any rareness with either...Non the less, me, son in law, grandson etc shoot...
