Re: Bulgarian "light" refurb SVT40

Marshall Koniev, for example, on one occasion only firm support from Zhukov saved him from punishment by death at the hands of the commissariat. He had failed miserably at the Vyazma pocket.

Re: Bulgarian "light" refurb SVT40

Thanks for that. I read that the Russians lost 3.6 million (!) troops in the first 6 months of the war along with hundreds of thousands of STV 40s, to the Wehrmach, who liked them, printed operation and maintenance manuals and were re-issued to their army. For certain there are many pix on U-tube of...

Re: Bulgarian "light" refurb SVT40

A big number of SVT 40s were captured and used by the Nazis. Have any shown up here other than bring backs?

Re: 1941 Izhevsk M38 with Egyptian Markings

Is it a way to make the safety more user friendly? I learned the other day that the Finns put finger rings on some of their cocking knobs.

Re: 1941 Izhevsk M38 with Egyptian Markings

Very cool. I spotted a similar rifle at a gun show in Council Bluffs Iowa yesterday. I just bought a carbine last weekend or it would have come home with me. The stock markings where very similar. The cocking knob was modified like this: 1206151229.jpg This is one of my own cocking knobs, but it wa...

Re: Red serial number

No, qz, there are no such marks, but there are five very small circles with maybe the letter D in the centre stamped into the shank and two on the cocking knob. Cheers

Re: Red serial number

It does not, It does not seem to have any markings other than the star, date and number. I see you are a friend of Eric's also. Cool.

Red serial number

Hi, I just bought a '39 91/30 Tula in great condition. Will someone kindly explain the red serial numbers on the barrel shank. Thanks Chris

Ballistics comparison

Another dumb nooby question. As I go through the net looking for Mosin Nagant information I keep running into one thing. The comparison of the performance of the 7.62x54R round with the 30.06 and the 308 and how it falls somewhere in between. When I go to the Hornady ballistic chart I see the 174 gr...

Re: Is my 1943 Tula Mosin-Nagant 91/30 useless?

Hi Entropy, Yes a very big decision. It was not merely a rifle factory that was moved to the Asian side of the Urals but ALL the armaments and munitions plants were taken down, loaded on to trucks and trains, set up on the other side of the Urals where old men, young boys and women of all ages had t...

Re: bolt body schematic

Hi SBP, After a 1 hour boiling of the barreled action in water and a chamber scrubbing with Gunslick solvent the bolt head turned easily. I polished the cams mildly with no change. In the near future I will buy another 91/30, this will be examined thoroughly and from a more informed perspective. Oh ...

That will be noted and complied with to the letter. I realise that there is more than a dollar value in play here and I am fully supportive.

Re: bolt body schematic

Thanks Rongo, I am about to order an "excellent" bolt. I am happy to spend money on this gun because it is pre-war build, just, 1940 Tula with "accuracy barrel" and a great bore. Might even go for the Timney trigger. Or maybe another $169 Mosin. Or both. I think its taking over, ...

Re: bolt body schematic

I believe the one hour boiling the action in water with following scrubbing with solvent took care of the chamber. When the action is closed it is opened easily on cocking leading me to suspect the opening cams as suggested on the net. BTW the sand paper was actually emery cloth and that was followe...

Re: bolt body schematic

Thanks SBP, I have been through that site. My quest begins with a locking bolt problem. I boiled the action for half an hour and that had the lugs engaging and disengaging just fine but the bolt, unless cocking first, requires mega force to get it open. Next I sanded and polished the cams, still no ...
