Replacement parts for 28/30
I thought he was smarter too. I still have them, all minus the one screw so there is that at least. I think if we are all honest we will admit to indiscretions of over cleaning at sometimes in our life. The key is to admit and learn from it. One basic thing we all suffer from is our total failure a...

Replacement parts for 28/30
Hey everyone. I'm posting this up in the hopes that someone can direct me somewhere I can pick up some small pieces for my 28/30. First are the sling eschuteons(?). While I was out of town for a while I left my guns in the care of a friend after telling him to clean them while I was gone. Evidently ...

Re: I think I scored bigtime
Kroil and Big 45 is all you need to use. If you can't get all the way into the pitting bottom, use a brass brush. Thoroughly wipe off the excess and give it a coating of CLP and you're good to go. I am assuming you removed all the grease from the metal first. Already been taken care of, thank you f...

That could be it, but now I`m wondering why it was pt so minuscule and right there. The text is microscopic.

Re: I think I scored bigtime
I de-rusted this hot little number the other day and while doing so found some interesting new markings I hadn`t noticed. Unfortunately they were rusted over so I can only guess at what most of the letters are. I found them on the left-hand side of the barrel, just behind the rear sight. It looks li...

Re: I think I scored bigtime
I can actually ship everything but the muzzle and nosecap to a buddy for an ultrasonic cleaning.

Re: I think I scored bigtime
Also, how long should I boil the bolt parts once it`s disassembled? I`ll be taking care of an unrelated project that should be a while.

Re: I think I scored bigtime
Looks like I have lemon oil on hand. I'll be using hot soapy water to de-gunk the bolt and will be sending some rusty parts to a buddy foe ultrasonic cleaning. That just leaves the nosecap and muzzle for de-rusting: They'll probably be soaked in brake cleaner or WD-40. What do the experts say?

Re: I think I scored bigtime
Thanks! I guess I`m jaded because I baby my other Mosins (especially my first, my 1943 Izhevsk) to the point at which the mentioned rifle has a near-virgin bolt face and an action smoother than my Krag(!).

I think I scored bigtime
So I was talking with a friend on another forum (on which I`m infinitely more active) and he put me in contact with a buddy of his who was looking to sell a few rifles. I hung my head when I heard about $550 sporterized Enfields, but perked up a bit when I heard about $120 unmolested Mosins. Looking...
