Re: How to check Mosin headspace using the Okie coin style g

...Sometimes I have a hard time getting the gauge off the bolt face. But when it falls off the bolt face and down into the mag housing or other hiding places, it's pretty frustrating... I have a couple of dental picks that I use as gun cleaning tools; very handy for getting into tight spaces. They ...

Re: My M44, M39 bolts don't interchange

Thanks, folks. I used my Okie headspace gauge to check headspace, and both rifles passed the no go check with their "original" bolts in place. That is, the bolts would not close on the gauge; so I assume that both rifles are safe to fire with surplus ammunition. As advised, I will not swap...

My M44, M39 bolts don't interchange

Well, not totally, anyway. I took the bolts out of my Russian M44 (1944r, Izhevsk Arsenal) and my Finnish M39 (1942 "B" barrel) and did some cleaning on them both. I didn't take them apart. Just out of curiosity I slipped the Russian M44 bolt into the Finnish rifle, but it would not close....

However, I would not plan to ever sell him one, he might not be able to spell "Ishevsk". :chuckles: :chuckles: :chuckles: Well, don't be too critical of him, dg, because apparently, neither can you; it's "Izhevsk."   Sorry, couldn't resist. :redfaced:

Re: Question about slings, dogcollars, buckles, etc.

I have always put all my screws and dog collers toward the right of the gun right or wrong it keeps buggered screw heads and buckles away from me and maybe getting hurt on them. Just a personal choice right or wrong! Bill :o I absolutely see you're point, Bill. The buckle on the rear dog collar cou...

Re: Question about slings, dogcollars, buckles, etc.

Thanks for the responses, everyone. I know that there are certain things that are logical and make sense, but in my experience in the military (USMC 1969-1972) things were done a certain way not because they made sense or were logical but because that's the way someone with more brass on their colla...

Question about slings, dogcollars, buckles, etc.

Hi folks. I recently acquired, over the course of the last couple of months, a Soviet M-44 carbine and a Finnish M-39, both shown in the photos posted below. http://i884.photobucket.com/albums/ac47/p-t-max/Mosin%20Nagant/m-44019copy.jpg http://i884.photobucket.com/albums/ac47/p-t-max/Mosin%20Nagant/...

Re: Arsenal Inc. SGL 21-61

Now I am on the verge of buying a quality red dot optical sight and side mount. I think this gun is accurate enough and begs for a quality, low power, light weight optical site that is coincidental with the irons. I'm still researching all that to see what I want and what I can afford. Please keep ...

Incidentally, the service manual and other documentation included in the box characterizes this firearm as a "self-loading hunting carbine."

Re: Arsenal Inc. SGL 21-61

I'd like to chime in and say that I was heavily influenced by this thread, so when I found one at a local gun shop last week, I put it on lay-away. After a week of obsessing over it, I decided I'd rather make monthly installments on my credit card than on the lay-away balance, so I went and got it. ...
