Odd bayonet on a saber?

Hey all, I hope this is not too far off topic... this not exactly a firearms question but I did not see a better place to ask... My son gave me what I think is a "Terek Cossack shashka", a Russian saber. Is he a good son or what! :) I think it is that anyway from googling images of Russian...

But all the rest did? :)

I would have picked that one up. Kinda like the sad puppy at the pound.

Re: Another gun show Westinghouse

Question from a newbie... Is there a known meaning to the "M, H, or E" that Homer2 asked about? Mine has what looks like a "C". I'd like to see a pic. Other marks appear, but there should be an arrow connected to the side of the letter to indicate the factory code. M is the Meri...

My son got me into this. He says to be authentic you need a thick heavy Russian trench coat. That's how the Russians survived :)

Have fun with it!

Thanks! Wish I spoke Russian. The clip of factory production was my favorite part.

"Russian ear wax"... I guess I should wear gloves, eh? :)

Thanks for all that. I'll start cleaning the girls ears tonight :)

Good idea to remove the extractor to clean first time?

Hey guys,

I saw that someone here said they remove the extractor from the bolt head when they get a new gun. The Lapin book said not to remove it unless you were replacing it.

I poked around here and did not find many references.

What's peoples thoughts?

Thanks!

Re: Shooting bends the cleaning rod?

Not so much the "50 continuous rounds" for the old girl :) I shot 10 in the NEW Mosin, then 20 in the SKS, then 10 more in the NEW. Did not get near hot enough to heat the rod.

Re: Shooting bends the cleaning rod?

NEW Mosin is a "go with the flow" type, eh? :) Yeah, it shots good (it shoots better than I can shoot it). I've eyeballed it and as best as I can see with my newbie eye, all seems well. I do not shoot the thing much but I will remember to pull the rod going forward. It is so cool that it s...

Spent cartridges have a bent rim. Normal?

Hey! Newbie question... I shot my Yugo SKS yesterday, and brought one of the spent cases home to sit on my desk to look at. :) So I LOOKED at it and the thing has a bend where the bullet was. So it is kind of "D" shaped with the flat part being about 0.3 inches. Is that a common thing? &qu...

Shooting bends the cleaning rod?

Hey! I took my New England Westinghouse to the range and fired 20 shots. When I got it home, the cleaning rod did not want to come out. After I got it apart I saw there was a bend in the threads just ahead of where it screws into the block. I remembered back and it was that way when I bought it. I h...

A little brake cleaner, a little blow dryer, a little thump, and it budged!

Junk Yard Dog... you are safe to come out. The sight is down and it ain't going back up any time soon :) That thing is TIGHT.

Thanks again guys!

Hey! Thanks for that guys! I will forward the tennis ball comments on to son :) Yeah, makes me nervous to force it, but I will clean/heat/bump and see if I can get it back down. Reminds me of a quote I read about the M1895 Nagant Revolver in wikipedia "As one former Imperial Russian officer sta...

Re: Yugo front sight stuck up

Take a deep breath. We will be OK. Or was my grenade comment scaring you? It is not me you need to worry about. My son envisions using his SKS to launch tennis balls for his Lab. :)

Besides your love of TR, I also like your sense of humor.

Yugo front sight stuck up

Hi! Brand new to the SKS. And I had to start playing with it :) I lifted up the front grenade sight, and now it is stuck. I soaked it in kerosene for a while, and then cleaned up with CLP but it is still stuck. I see what I think are the hinge pins on the muzzle end of the sight base, and what look ...
