Re: Chilean 1895 Mauser - First Looks

Very nice find!! I have a sporter in this and it has been my main hunting rifle for the past two years. Very accurate at 100yrds +. Mine likes the heavier rounds. Accuracy drops off when I get below 160gr range. Very comfortable to shoot with the 170gr.

Re: Does arsenal rebuilding negate C&R status?

A slight hijack but still somewhat on topic. I have a 1895 Chilean in 7mm that had been sported. Stock had been cut down, sights removed, scope mount staked, and barrel cut and recrowned. All of this was done way before I bought it. Anyway, this thread got me to thinking about antique status. I list...

Re: Help deciding

I don't think the stock has been messed with. The cosmo is still in the crevices and the bolt seems to have been peened. I think if it was sanded or stripped, the metal adjacent to the wood would show evidence since I don't think the bolt can be removed. In the picture you can see the peen which did...

Re: Help deciding

I went by today and took a few more pictures. I think you are correct, it looks like a /26\. Does the stock look sanded? It doesn't have much of the shellac left if any. I want sure how the finished the stocks at the factory. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/03/14/2yruha7e.jpg http://img.tapatalk.com/d/...

Help deciding

I've been looking at a type 56 from plant 316 made in 1966 with all matching. I only snapped a few pictures, but it's in very good shape. The guy is asking $340. My gun fund is pretty dang low at the moment and it would completely tap me out. Saying that, I do not have a type 56 in the safe yet. It ...

Re: New Members, Make your first post here!

I got a mauser not long ago and now I have the bug...that one where you only look for the older more mature ones that you know are built well. Oh well, at least my wife doesn't mind!!
