Re: Finn Followed Me Home

Thanks for replies so far. The finish looks old, but certainly looks smoother than a lacquered military finish. So probably was tinkered with in its past. The loose bands...... Lapin says in his book that the Finns installed small screws just in front of each band so they would not come off. I can u...

Re: Just ordered a half dozen Hexes from AIM

Following up on AIM's response to the pitted parts (barrel bands and butt plates). They had me send them a few photos and immediately sent out replacements. Too bad the butt plates won't match but we'll keep the originals for C&R sake. Also received some parts from Liberty Tree Collectors. I had...

Finn Followed Me Home

Today at a gun show, a Finn followed me home. Sold by private party at the show. 1940 Tikka M91. Mismatched. Appears to be a Finnish stock, note the S in the photo on the right side of the stock. Butt plate and some other small parts are Russian marked. Handguard is 3 rivet type, all copper rivets. ...

Re: Best ammo to use for Mosin PU?

I'm still stocking up on the milsurp ammo spam cans. This stuff will dry out too some day, and we'll be writing "remember the day when you could get at 440 round spam can for $85?". Well, that day is now. So stock up when you can and you'll be set for a long time. I'm heading out with my n...

Re: Importer Serial Numbers

Okay, there is the original number on the top of the receiver (which matches other numbers on the parts), and there's the importer's number included with all their markings. I'm assuming the "billboard" is the latter of the two? So the newly etched number assigned by the importer is the gu...

Importer Serial Numbers

It's been a while since I purchased an imported rifle. I see that the importer's marks are now displayed in all their glorious splendor (not...). Each of the Mosins recently received have an importer's serial number etched in with the import markings. Question: Is this new serial number the rifle's ...

Re: Type 53 Received

I have a few military rifles with initials carved in the stocks. This brings life to these old battle instruments.

Type 53 Received

Received the Type 53 I ordered from Matt at Axis Arms. Great personalized service. He was texting me photos of rifles to pick from. He emailed today that he received another batch of them (they are Century imports) and that one was in particularly good condition. http://axisarmsonline.com/Rifles/C-a...

Re: Just ordered a half dozen Hexes from AIM

So the three "hand picked" rifles are the first three starting from the left I'm guessing? The second one from the left (in the photo showing the butt plates), closest to the chair is a non hand picked one. The fourth one from the left is a hand picked. 2,5,6 are the non hand picked rifle...

Re: Just ordered a half dozen Hexes from AIM

Here are the Photos. Apologize for the print on the chair... Notice that one of the stocks is actually about 3/8" longer than the others. Also notice photos of pitted bands, buttplates, and nosepieces. The wood is definitely in nice condition as is the bluing and finish of the main metal parts....

Re: Just ordered a half dozen Hexes from AIM

Will do on the photos. From a few feet away they all look identical. Every rifle, even the 3 hand picks had some issues. The most common were pitted barrel bands (easy to replace with correct markings). 2 of them had pitting on butt plates (could replace but then would lose the match, so maybe repla...

Re: Just ordered a half dozen Hexes from AIM

All the rifles are unpacked. There was one rifle not marked a Tula on the label that actually was a Tula. So 3 of 6 are Tulas. The 3 hand picked rifles were the best. One rifle has some pitting on the barrel bands and the but plate (bands can be replaced but the butt plate matches). One rifle has a ...

Re: Steyr M95

Most definitely look for the long version. They are a bit easier to shoot (from a recoil management standpoint). For the short rifle just have a real good cheek weld so you don't get popped. I still have a few hundred rounds of the Nazi ammo that I'm not going to shoot any more. I bought a lot of re...

Re: Just ordered a half dozen Hexes from AIM

Here's a photo of the open end of the 2 boxes. I was told there were no more hand picked available so they refunded that price (AIM). Fair enough. Turns out there are 3 of the 6 that marked hand picked (checked one and it's cherry), and at least 2 of them that are Tula marked, and maybe a third. Wil...

Re: Just ordered a half dozen Hexes from AIM

BBT event this afternoon. Now the 6 hexes are sitting near the front door in 2 boxes. Will explore and report this weekend. These were some of the last from AIM. That has me kinda worried condition-wise. But the AIM rep told me that they sort out the "hand select" rifles beforehand. When o...

Re: Alternative scope sight-in procedure?

Thanks! That's where I got the basic procedure from. First get reticle on group (windage/elev turrets), then move reticle to center of scope (mount screws, shim/file). I figure that using the iron sights will assist with getting basic adjustments made using the least amount of ammo. Thanks again. Da...

Alternative scope sight-in procedure?

Thinking about an alternative way to sight in a PU scoped rifle. The bottom adjustment screw on a new sniper I recently acquired is not staked or lock-tited. In fact it is fairly easy to turn. So I know I'll have to set this at the range, along with the top one. Was thinking that you could get a goo...

Rear scope screw tightness

I did a search before posting.....

How tight should the rear scope screw be on a PU scope? It has grooves which implies finger tight, but there is also a slot for a screwdriver.

Thanks, David
