Thank you fellow forum members for your comments! Your thought have made me even more excited about getting this rifle. I hadn't considered that it might be a SCW or Finn capture rifle. I promise to post more pictures as soon as it get this Tula in my hands. :D

Re: Bought My First Non-Reburb, a Tula 1936 Round Receiver

Sorry about that! :devil2: I also wonder if it might be a SCW rifle as well. I will be checking the rifle out carefully when I finally get it next month. :chuckles:

Bought My First Non-Reburb, a Tula 1936 Round Receiver

I already have a lovely Tula 1936 hex receiver refurb rifle that is my favorite 91/30. Once I heard that in that year both hex and round receiver were made I wanted to have a '36 Tula round receiver to go with it. I have been looking for one for a couple of months and hadn't found a good one - until...

Rust Removal Solution?

I finally had a chance to remove the action of my latest acquisition - a 1925 Tula 5-Line and found that there was a quite a bit of rust under the barrel, on the top of the magazine/trigger guard, and the front hand guard retaining ring. Are there suggestions on a suitable removal procedure for rust...

Tula Rifles Made at Izhevsk Arsenal 1942-1944?

I just read in Lapin's book on the Mosin-Nagant that once the Germans got too close to the Tula Arsenal the Soviets broke down the equipment and moved it to the Izhevsk Arsenal. The real surprise to me was once they built the equipment back up they continued to make rifles bearing the Tula "Sta...

Re: 1934 Izhevsk w Light Handguard and Stock Cartouches

It is quite a coincidence that I bought a 1934 Izhevsk that had that same stock/hand guard mismatch as yours. What I learned was that such a mismatch prevented the rear hand guard retaining ring having a solid hold. The first time I went shooting with this rifle that ring released and the hand guard...

Re: Avoiding Scraping Stock/Hand guard during Ring Removal

The firing pin gauge slash screw driver works great. Use the last slot in the gauge to go over the tooth in the band and push the tool into the band. This works well on all of mine. :D An even more elegant way of doing it. Only requires one tool, and it's one every Mosin owner should have any way. ...

Re: Avoiding Scraping Stock/Hand guard during Ring Removal

This is what I use, it expands it enough. A small screw driver a piece of wood and a external retaining ring tool. Sometimes you need the screwdriver to open them up a little more to get the tool on, when taking them off you use the wood to expand them enough to get the screwdriver on then the tool...

Avoiding Scraping Stock/Hand guard during Ring Removal

Whenever I remove the hand guard retention rings in order to remove the action from the stock I haven't been able to avoid scraping the shellac off of either the stock or the hand guard. :x Can anyone recommend a way to avoid this damage?

The rifle that it came with is a 1936 Tula Hex 91/30 that was "featured" in a post about a "perfect" 36 last week. No, unfortunately, it is not a DDR. It would be so cool if it was.

Re: Leather 91/30 Shoulder Strap

Thank you for the overwhelming firestorm response to my post! I had no idea that this strap would be so special. When I first saw it in the plastic bag with the cartridge pouch, cleaning kit, and oil bottle I thought that the exporter just stuck an imitation strap of the green fabric strap. Was I ev...

Leather 91/30 Shoulder Strap

I had a chance today to open up the accessory pack of my latest 91/30 imported by Century Arms International only to find that the shoulder strap was leather! All of the previous acquisitions included olive drab fabric shoulder straps plus all of the pictures that I have seen had the same type. Of t...
