Re: Family range day

Hey, you just never know who is a good shot and who is not, until they get out to the range a few times. I had one female in the family that was totally "anti-gun" and what you would call a "girly girl", among a family of females/males who were extremely "pro-gun/hunters&quo...

Re: Centerfire Systems

I bought my Vepr 7.62x54r 20" type 02 through Centerfire. They are reliable, have very good customer service, and they ship everything for 10 bucks or even for free. They didn't charge my card until the firearm shipped. Only complaint I have is their website at the time didn't give you up to da...

Re: Spam can prices

$119 for a spam can of corrosive surplus is getting on the edge of what I would pay at a LGS. Too high for an internet sale which would include S&H, imo. The price is going up simply due to the whole Ukraine/Russian crap going on and people panic buying. Considering how much of it comes out of R...

Re: Bought a ROUGH!! M44--I Don't Know Why?

As long as the bore, crown, and headspacing are good, there is no reason with a little TLC that this won't be a good shooter. Nice find. :)

Very nice condition! I'm sure you'll get a lot of enjoyment out of it. The K31 I have is a sweet shooter, as they all tend to be.

Re: Idea on getting maximum corrosive salts out of the barre

Okay. I guess what I'll say is that cleaning a rifle with just Ballistol works for use after shooting corrosive ammo as well.

Re: Idea on getting maximum corrosive salts out of the barre

I've been shooting nothing but surplus, corrosive ammo on a Vepr 7.62x54r 20" and a Mosin M44 that is in pristine condition for years. The only thing I've done is clean them using Ballistol with normal methods within a few hours of firing them. Yes, on the Vepr, I completely break it down sinc...

Re: M44 shot

Love my M44. Its a sweet shooter. Its distinctive "boom" and muzzle flash always gets comments on the range. Mine also got involved in a random NRA instructor training incident where the instructor wanted to show the students how body armor/kevlar helmets would perform against a high-power...

Re: Different Ammo with the Sino/Soviet

Thanks. I wonder how much "accuracy reputation" for both SKS and AK's is due to the ammo. Quite a bit. The crazy thing is, its determined by the weapon itself as well. Example, I have an AK that isn't accurate unless it has Ukranian Hot Shot 123grn through it, of all the berdan primed amm...

After viewing the pictures, I immediately voiced in my head Junk Yard Dog's thoughts. Check the headspace.

Why? Because it looks so nice that I'd want to shoot it. ;)

Re: What's up with this hex?

Weird thought - I own some Swiss rifles, and that "3 inside a circle" stamp would mean that the rifle went through one of their canton's arsenals. Seems to be obvious though, that the Swiss wouldn't send a 91/30 to one of their canton's arsenals for a refit. ;)

Re: What's up with this hex?

Do you have a pic of the receiver? Only have 2 more pictures of it. The rest of the receiver has no markings except for the wonderful importer stamps. The bolt on the other hand had a matching serial #, Izhevsk stamps, and a small star stamped on the extractor. https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7380/1...

Yea, its a circle with a 3 in it.

Shoots fairly well. Definitely not K31 accurate, but accurate enough at 100yards. It hasn't been counter-bored and the rifling is frosty.

What's up with this hex?

This Mosin went through a rough refurb (the bluing was sloppy, some serials restruck, and some of the stamping seems like it was done by a Russian with way too much vodka in him), but I'm not used to seeing a Mosin without a emblem at the top of the receiver of a hammer and sickle. Is there anything...

Re: Best ammo to use for Mosin PU?

Ivan Sidorenko, Lyudmila Pavlichenko, and Vasily Zaytsev, all Hero's of the Soviet Union, were all Russian snipers during WW2 that used 7.62x54 corrosive ammo as they sniped hundreds of enemy soldiers, officers, and snipers. The same stuff that comes in the spam cans. I'd say what's good enough for ...

Re: Chinese SKS Markings (sticky)

Here is an example of a Sino-Soviet serial # and marking from the Jianshe factory /26\, early 1956. Serial's for a Sino-Soviet are always to the left of the factory mark, start with an alpha character, and end with 4 digits. Anything to the right of the factory mark, or doesn't follow that serial# f...
