Re: Bought my first SKS
Wow, congrats at picking up a 1950 Russian SKS at a 1985 price. You did exceptionally well.

Re: Picked up a Yugo SKS Today
Very nice  :Drool1: Mine is a good shooter. I have one from 1968 that I recently picked up and it was definitely rebuilt to some degree at sometime in it's life. From what I have gathered many of the late 1960s early 1970s vintage M59/66A1 rifles were refurbed, stored and then sold years ...

Re: Picked up a Yugo SKS Today
To my knowledge you are correct about the “J” prefix, 1973 would be the correct year of manufacture but I wouldn’t be surprised if it has been refurbished somewhere along the line. The rifle looks like it is in nice shape. How does the bore look? I have one from 1968 that I recently picked up and it...

Degreasing/cosmoline removal
I know a lot of people have favorite ways of removing cosmoline from their rifles. Some claim a good degreaser like break free or WD40 and mineral spirits or kerosene of even gasoline work best yet others say boiling water or the dishwasher or oven cleaner work as well. Somebody even told me that ba...

Re: Yugo M59/66A1
The Murrays firing pin is good, but one popped primer and chances are the spring on the pin is toast. Alot of heat and pressure from the popped primer going through the channel will usually distort it. The very early Russian SKS's used a spring loaded pin, then they went away from it, possibly for ...

Re: Yugo M59/66A1
Putting the Murray's spring kit in is not looked down upon here, as it solves a safety issue. I have never put one in any SKS I've owned, but others here have, it's good insurance. I reload with #34 CCI primers, which are hardened for floating firing pins commonly encountered in military weapons. G...

Re: Yugo M59/66A1
Oh yea  :welcome3:   Thank you and thanks for the heads up on the firing pin. I was going to clean the firing pin bolt when I get around to ripping the rifle completely down. I've heard about the possible slam fire issue. I've also heard people say to stay away from the af...

Yugo M59/66A1
This is my first post here and I just picked up an M59/66A1. The rifle seems very clean finish is 90% or better. All numbers match with a serial number prefix of "E". From what I've come across that would put the date of manufacture at a 1968. The bore is nice and shiny and the rifling loo...

Re: New Members, Make your first post here!
Hello,
This is obviously my first required post. I've been an avid collector of firearms/hunter and trap shooter all my life. Recent I got the bug to aquire a nice SKS either Russian or Yugo and I've been doing some research here. This place looks like a good place to start.
Thanks
