Cleaned Them Up
I don't know whether this is frowned upon (as I get the impression some on this forum like their Mosins rough), but I cleaned up the nicks on my Mosin stocks with wood stain markers . I am very happy with the results. The stocks look like new. I know, if I want a new gun, go buy a new gun. But I lik...

Re: What Is Good Condition?
To guarantee you will get something in good condition with a very nice stock and no rust, buy a new or used Remchester. A milsurp should look used. One with a soldiers initials is great. You are buying history not pretty. I purchased two Mosins in "very good to excellent" condition. The s...

What Is Good Condition?
I've seen some sites offering Type 53s in "good" condition for $100-$120. But some of the reviews say they got rifles with beat up stocks (initials carved into them) and significant rust. That does not sound like "good" condition to me. Is it normal to list rifles like that as &q...

Repair a crack?
My 1939 Mosin has a small crack on the bottom of the handguard at the very end. If I pull on the end, the wood only separates a few millimeters but the crack is about an inch long. You can't really see the crack in this photo, but I've circled the location. Should I leave this alone or repair it? If...

Re: [noob] How to tighten magazine?
The reason it has no screw slot is because it is a rivet. These rifles rattle. They were made that way to stay reliable in bad conditions. Also they are old rifles with alot of wear too. The only reason I thought it may not be normal is that I have two Mosins, a 1939 and 1943. The 39 does not rattl...

Re: [noob] How to tighten magazine?
Actually, I just discovered it's the bottom "door" of the magazine that's loose. When I open it, I can jiggle it from side to side. It appears the screws on which it pivots may need to be tightened, but they don't have any notches for a screw driver. Is there some way to tighten those? Tha...

[noob] How to tighten magazine?
The magazine on one of my Mosins rattles when I shake it. I know, "Then don't shake it."
But I only see one screw on it and it's tight. Is there some other way to tighten the magazine or do some Mosins just have a rattle?
Thanks

Yeah, originally one of these was for a friend but I decided to keep both. I guess I already caught the bug.

Which to Shoot?
I recently acquired two Mosins. Both are 91/30s from Izhevsk. One is a 1939 with a pre-war stock and the other is a 1943 with a post-war stock. All serial numbers match on both. Both are in very good to excellent condition, but the 43 is in a little better condition than the 39. I plan on shooting o...
