Best ersatz scope mount for SVT40
I am not quite there yet, but I am considering adding the "notch" on my 1941 SVT40, and using a repro scope mount and a scope. I figure since I am making the modification to *my* rifle, I'll mark it in some conspicuous manner so as to not mislead anybody as to its provenance. It is a mixma...

Very slick
I wish I had the notch on the receiver so that I could install a scope to aid these tired eyes. It is very nice rifle.

Re: Bore cleaning blues...
I hesitated. Almost I didn't post. But then....
I purchased a milsurp in February that looked pretty rough, bore condition wise. I used up a bore brush with Mpro7 bore gel and that baby is shiny. Something there is in that bore gel which really cuts thru the crud.
You might try it.

Re: Can opener needed for spam can?
If I don't have the can opener, I just use one of those Russian bayonets, sorta like a P38 tool. Poke it thru the lid midway down the long side, using the "sharp" edge to grip the rolled over edge of the can, just sorta pivot the blade upwards and it cuts right through that thin steel. Mov...

Not to mention the Federal Excise tax that you owe on every round of ammunition you manufactured and sold.
Good luck!~

I have grown to really appreciate CCI primers. I used to use Federals, back in the days of the old, low brisance, formulation. I don't see a whole lot of difference with the present iteration.

Re: Starting to look for an SVT40 - need guidance
These rifles, probably more so than other surplus firearms, really need to be evaluated on a piece by piece basis. Those with good bores will often shoot very well indeed. The fit of the action in the stock will also contribute to better accuracy. Those with the genuine sniper notch will fetch a pre...

Re: Finally picked up an SVT 40
First posting here. Glad to be with you. I understand the worries or concerns about corrosive ammo in your SVT40. I will point out that the rifle was designed to be shot with this ammunition, and the example you have has probably seen countless rounds of the stuff. Cleaning the gas system is not a d...
