Assume you are reloading? I use the 139 gr. Prvi from Graf and Sons, pretty decent, not exceptional for around $22/100. Their ammo is also pretty reasonable and shoots decent.

Remember some time ago that JYD said he used his trusty leatherman, needlenose in the gap and spread the ring apart. I've used this ever since and have no trouble - Just make sure you lube up the stock and hand guard well.

My K31 is also a 1944, It is walnut but it sure looked like beech at first sight. I think beech started in 45.
