The Russian Mosin Nagant Forum

ah thank you for the clarification. Yes I think you're right with the stock. I have paid a very good price for it with that in mind, along with the rust on the metalwork taken into account. I will be putting some garnet shellac over the finish to make it as correct as I can, otherwise leaving it alo...

OK understood - so scope covers sewn through the scope mounts are not of concern? That puts my mind at ease. Thanks both.

Hi all, after a few posts on here and asking for help identifying real or fake PU rifles, I settled on one that I am fairly certain is genuine. The only thing that is bugging me is the scope cover being threaded through the mount... I've read a few places that sometimes this was done on a genuine ri...

Thanks very much. I am kicking myself for not taking picture of the bolt but I did compare it on the spot with those shown on m1930.info and they also had 3 fakes on the rack which all looked obvious in the bolt area, i.e. polished/fresh metal surfaces, no working marks etc. I'm fairly happy this is...

It's in the UK

oh and also, the bolt knob had a dimple/hole in it at the end. I've read another post on this forum before that this could be where they were turned in the lathe and that is the contact dimple from that process. I thought it worth mentioning.

Hi all, I have spotted another potential PU but it is missing the scope number stamped on the barrel. It appears that it has been scrubbed, as I can see some very slight difference in the machining marks but if it has been ground off and reblued, they have done a very, very tidy job on it. I asked t...

So I assume you are not trying to aquire this rifle?

I am interested in acquiring it. I am based in Europe.

Unfortunately it isn't import marked as it is in Europe, so never entered the US

Thanks again for the input. The auction house did provide additional images, so if anyone has any thoughts after seeing these, I would appreaciate the feedback

Thanks for the replies. I'm going to pass on it. Auction estimate was $700 - $800 but this auction notoriously puts low estimates to entice bidders. You can see the serial numbers in the top down pic and it fits within the range of a sniper and you can see that there is a scope number on the shank b...

Unfortunately it is in an auction so I can't get any additional images, and it is in Europe so no import marks. I was hoping someone could say if it has clearly been refinished from these pictures or if it is an original in very good condition

Hi all, New user here and like others, I am so glad I found this forum. I've been reading and reading about how to spot a 'fake' sniper from a real one but I'm still not 100% 'in the know' on it. I have seen two rifles, both pretty similar that appear to be 'genuine' snipers but I'm not sure if they...
