Re: Rolling block Talk!

Very neat! Any markings to ID which South American country it was shipped to? Or were these, like you said, pretty much scrubbed

Re: Springfield ID help!

This is super helpful! Thanks! Apparently it's a little bit of a franken-gun, with barrel bands from an earlier model, lock plate and barrel from an 1866, and wood from an 1870ish model! And cut down. That's a story I'd love to hear. I wonder if some of this sort of stuff was done c. 1870s-1880s? I ...

Rolling block Talk!

Any rolling block experts here. I recently acquired a rolling block carbine with the 20.5” barrel in 7.65mm Argentine Mauser. Good looking little gun. Fun action. I believe it’s a number 5, but honestly don’t know how to tell them apart. My question is, I can’t find any crests, military markings, et...

Re: Springfield ID help!

Here is a pic of the crown. It looks a little irregular to me. Also, I was informed it does not match any known “shortenings” and was cut down by “parties unknown.” Does the crown quality indicate a bubba job?

Springfield ID help!

Hey all!
Hoping to get some help. I purchased this Springfield Trapdoor and am hoping to learn some more about it. It appears to be an 1866 2nd conversion, but may also have been modified. The barrel length (plus chamber) is only 28-1/4”. Any help in Id-ing this odd bird?

Re: 91/30 with an interesting history!

I think you may be right. Sorry. I’m very new at this. I grew less confident in it being laminate the longer I looked at it. Any surefire way to tell?

91/30 with an interesting history!

Well, the Type 53 I showcased earlier didn’t work out (don’t ask…) but the perfect rifle has finally found it’s way into my collection. This is a 1929 marked Izhevsk 91/30 with some cool characteristics. I believe it to be a rare prototype!!! Jk, I know it’s an ex-dragoon…just a bit of a laugh. I ca...

I also found that interesting. It doesn’t look faked, but I wonder if perhaps the part was slated for rearsenal? Fascinating stuff!

Re: New Type 53

The stock situation is unfortunate. It's incredibly glossy, drippy, and generally not well done. There are two of the circular, two-digit inspection marks (much like the soviet markings) visible, but they are flush with the wood and no indentation is felt running ones fingers over it. It certainly s...

New Type 53

Any Type 53 experts?? This is totally new to me and I’m really unfamiliar with this variant, beyond its identity as a 44 clone. I’ve attached some pics. Please excuse bubba’s hideous varnish job…the stock is an embarrassing eyesore. Any explanation or clues re: these markings? I’ve been scouring the...

Type 53 Value?

Hi all,
Value/price question: I found a nice looking 1955 Chinese Type 53. The stock has been refinished, and I suspect the rifle may have been reblued, but it’s hard to tell. It’s listed for $350. Is this a fair price, or is this highway robbery? Any guidance helps!

Re: Mosin 91/59 Score!

Interesting! Again, I am so incredibly new to this process of collecting, and I know the 91/59's can be a mish-mash of parts, but I sort of wondered if an early 30's/hex receiver combo was a little uncommon for these. The stock makes sense, totally should have picked up on that since my m44 is a '45...

Re: Mosin 91/59 Score!

Fascinating. That’s sort of the answer I figured, since that was my understanding of the carbine’s manufacturing process as well. I also meant sling slots in my original description, but accidentally typed sling swivels…whoops! At any rate, is it probably safe to say there’s no “typical” characteris...

Mosin 91/59 Score!

Hi all! New to the forum, but loving all the Mosin info. Also new to the world of Mosins, and currently have an m44 and this beautiful m91/59. I picked it up at a pawn shops after being intrigued by the nebulous origins of this model. I found this one to have some curious characteristics including: ...

Hi all!
My name is Sam and I am the proud owner of two Mosin carbines (m44 and, as of today; an m91/59 that I am thrilled about)! I really am starting to appreciate the rugged nature of the Mosin and look forward to learning and continuing to collect!
