1978 late date no maker M39
I'd like to discuss the late date M39 rifles, and their dates for a moment. It's my understanding that they were made from 1967-70, as well as a few in 1973. That was at least until I saw a post of this particular 1978 rifle in a Facebook group I'm a member of: 273910574_10161915803738438_1702102308...

Picked up a new cannon today. Ruger M77 in .458 Win. Mag.
I'm more a collector of historic rifles, not hunting rifles. This rifle however filled a particular niche that's been bugging me for years. I really wanted a "elephant gun" or at least a belted magnum of some sort. I have been on the lookout for a rifle in .458 Win Mag, or .375 H&H, an...

Found a nice M27 at a local shop that just opened
I decided to check out a newly opened gun shop near me, without the expectation of finding much. I was pleasantly surprised to find this very nice 1935 M27 for $700. I knew it was coming home with me right then. The bluing and stock on it are both in excellent condition. The barrel looks perfect as ...

Re: Mosin Nagant bolt won’t close
And if it’s easy then just order another extractor and swap it? I fixed my m38 myself. The angled part of the extractor that slides over the rim of the cartridge is where the issue is. I took a needle file and got a nice smooth angle on the extractor face. Then I polished it nice and smooth with 20...

1894 Tula M91 with quite the story.
Hi Everyone, Here is my 1894 Tula M91, that has been around the block a few times. I picked it up a few years back at a LGS. Its got quite a few dings in the stock, and shows a good amount of bluing wear as well. The barrel is surprisingly clean, and it shoots pretty well. Once I got it home, I real...

Re: Mosin Nagant bolt won’t close
It could be that your extractor is difficult to get over the rim of the cartridge when closing the bolt. To test if it's your extractor, take the bolt out of the gun. Place a round(it's best to use a snap cap, but if you don't have any be careful and follow basic firearms safety procedures) into the...

Finnish M27 in a M28/30 stock.
Hi everyone! I picked up this super nice Finnish M27 Mosin Nagant the other day. It's been fitted into a M28/30 stock, likely by Finnish armorer's when no M27 stocks were available. The fore end of the stock was reinforced with metal plates, and modified to use the M27 nose cap. The bolts serial num...

Re: 1970 Late Date M39 with "AZ" stamp.
  :vcool: One day on the old Pat Burns M39 list I spotted 1967, 1968, 1969, and 1970 and as I didn't see any real nice B barrel or early SAKO in the mix that week I bought all four late dates so I had something coming in that week. Years later I don't regret that purchase. My cu...

WTB: M39 cleaning rod
Hi All,
Looking to get a Mosin M39 cleaning rod if anyone has one. I'd prefer one with as good of bluing as I can find, as it's going on a mint condition 1970 late date M39.

1970 Late Date M39 with "AZ" stamp.
Got myself this super nice 1970 late date no maker M39 yesterday. I'm pretty sure this thing saw little to no use after it was assembled in 1970, because it looks like a new rifle. It was made on a 1909 Sestroryetsk receiver. As an added bonus that I didn't see in the photos of it is an "AZ&quo...

Finnish M28/30
I finally got hold of a Finnish m28/30 for the collection Its a 1939 Sako rifle in absolutely beautiful condition. The bluing and stock on it are nearly perfect, leading me to believe that it either didn't see much action or it was refurbished with a new stock after the war at some point. Anyway her...

Finally added a Finnish Civil Guard M28 to my collection
I've been bidding on and losing M28's on gunbroker for a while now. I put a bid on this one, and fully expected it to go for more than my bid. To my surprise, it didn't and I got it for $770. I don't think its a bad deal, considering most M39's on these have been going for $800-$1000 these days. Its...

Re: My 1943 Izhevsk M38
My "favorites" change on a fairly regular basis. The first Mosin-Nagant that I bought is among my favorites, a run-of-the-mil hex receiver 91/30. Your first always holds your heart-stings. I haven't been doing hardly any shooting lately and it may have been a year or more since I shot a M...

My 1943 Izhevsk M38
It's not special, but this M38 is one of my favorite of my 2 dozen or so Mosin's. It's got rough milling on the receiver, is in an M44 stock, has a frosted barrel that's been counterbored, and some light rust in spots. There's just something that always draws me to this rifle. It's always the first ...

Re: I made a custom gun rack for a few Mosins over the weekend, what does everyone think?
That is nice. I really like the finish. How much work does the finishing involve? It is actually surprisingly easy, Google "Shou Sugi Ban" and youll find plenty of tutorials. The worst part of doing this is wire brushing of the charred wood, it's really messy and you definitely need to we...

I made a custom gun rack for a few Mosins over the weekend, what does everyone think?
I made this as a weekend project with my dad. It's made out of some cheap 1x6 pine boards that I finished using a Japanese technique called "Shou Shugi Ban" which basically works by charring the wood with a torch and wire brushing the char off. I used bent railroad spike hangers for the gu...

Finally managed to get a type 53 in very good condition
I've been on the hunt for a nice Type 53 for a while now. It's proved incredibly difficult to find a nice one, most that I've come across are in absolutely horrible condition. This one is a 1954 Arsenal 296 type 53, that is all matching except the bolt. The date is stamped 1954.12 on this one, does ...

Found a 1943 Izhevsk with a "pool cue splice"
Was at my local gun shop, and I noticed this 1943 Izhevsk had a spliced stock. It looks like this is the Soviet "pool cue splice." It also has 2 repairs, one under the bolt handle, and the other by the cleaning rod. I think these are interesting, because it shows the amount of work they we...

M91/38 Cossack Marked
Hi everyone, I picked up this Mosin today from my FFL after winning it in an auction. It began its life as Cossack rifle(KA3 Marked) made by Izhevsk in 1896, and has been converted a few times since. Hopefully everyone here can provide some clarification if my research is incorrect. From what I have...
