Re: Bore Snake for cleaning Mosin's

I use a bore snake on my mosins but I flush the barrel with hot water first and use the bore snake as a last step after using a brush and patches on a cleaning jag. It is mostly just to oil the barrel more than clean it. I have found that an 8mm one works better than a .30 cal one. It has a tighter ...

Re: Ruger MKIII

I have a MkIII for a few years and shot it a bunch until .22 ammo got in such a short supply here. Out of all the thousands of rounds I have used I have only had a handfull of failures. They are a little difficult to disassemble but once you get the hang of it its not too bad. And best of all it is ...

Re: My trip to Gander Mountain ~ MOSIN OVERLOAD ~ Pic heavy

Nice rifle. I believe the stock has no plate on the back because it is a wartime production stock but someone who knows more about them than me might know for sure. I wish I could find a store that had that many mosins. Around here right now it is sitll pretty slim pickins and the stores that do hav...

Re: To the bubbas lurking on this site....

I'll admit that when I first entertained getting a Mosin that I had visions of making it all nice and purdy and that my vision of purdy was to refurbish it. Once I started shopping around for one I quickly lost all notions of that nonsense as to actually hold one is to hold a piece of history. It t...

Replacement laminate stock

Anyone know where the best place is to get a laminate replacement stock for a 91 30. I have a rifle that has a lot of stampings all over the wood of the stock the rifle came in and I was wanting to get another stock to use so that I can preserve all the markings on the original one. I plan on using ...

Re: Hoppes Bore Snake

I tired the .30 cal bore snake on my Mosin but it didnt seem to fit tight enough to do a good job of cleaning the bore. Now I have an 8mm on that I just use on my Mosin rifles it does a good job for a quick cleaning. Also the bore snakes can just be bound up with a rubberband and thrown in the washi...

WASR 10

I figurred I better get one of these while I still could. Shot it the first time today. Shoots great except it has some trigger slap to it. Does anyone know what the best way to fix this is? Also does anyone know what the tag on the stock is? I havent seen one of these before but I am new to AKs.

Re: 1933 ex Dragoon

I have a 1933 with the ex dragoon sights. I have a post with pictures viewtopic.php?f=5&t=3975. I think it is a really neat rifle and even is a good shooter which makes it that much better.

M1 Garand

I started my mil surplus with the cheap mosins. Now I am interested in diversifying my collection and I think a M1 Garand would be a nice addition. Does anyone know a good place to start looking and what is the going rate these days? I have seen a couple in a few gunshops around here but they are ha...

Re: Normal to use 150 patches to clean bore?

One thing I have used that has sped up cleaning all my rifles is a bore snake. I tried the .30 cal one first but it didn't quite get the job done. Now I have an 8mm one and it does great. Really gets a lot of the fouling out. After I run boiling water down the barrel i dip the string before the wire...

Re: Non-Corrosive 7.62x54r

another place to get non-corrosive ammo is cabelas. I got some Herters brand fmj steel cased there for under $8 for a box of 20 when it was on sale. Not sure what the price is now.

bullets for reloading

where is the best place to get bullets for a M91/30. I have looked in a few places and all I can find is .308 caliber bullets not .310. I would like to find FMJ and maybe some soft point or other bullets I can use for hunting.

Re: Cleanup/Preservation question

I would just clean the rifle like you normaly would. Sometimes the paint comes off doing this and if it does leave it off but if it stays i would leave it like that .

Re: Removing rear sight

by the sight block i mean the part that is attached to the barrel that is left after the 2 pins are driven out and the entire rear sight romoved. I will also look into the scout scope mount. I also thought one of them would be better but I already had the red dot scope so I thought I would try it fi...

Re: Removing rear sight

I appoligize if I have posted this in the wrong spot or have offended anyone. I have a red dot scope and i read somewhere that you could remove the rear sight base and mount the scope to the sight block. the reason I dont want to buy one of the other mounts is I just want the scope on temporarily to...

I am wanting to take it off to try puting a scope on it. I want to do it in a way that can be put back to original and have seen a couple mounts that go on the sight block through the holes where the pins were.

Removing rear sight

What is the best way to remove the rear sight. I have driven the pins out that hold it on and I tried tapping it with a rubber mallet but I couldnt get it to budge. I have heared that some are soldered on and have to be heated. What is the best way to do this without damaging the finish on the rifle...
